Join the fourth annual Earth Week celebration April with a series of events and competitions designed to bring out the 'green' in everyone!

We've got a trashion fashion show and competition, electronics recycling, "Gardening with Ciscoe," a clothing drive and much more.

April 21-29

Clothes for a Cause - 7am-4pm April 21-29, Whitehorse Hall Critique Space (second floor). EXTENDED TO TUESDAY, APRIL 29. Donate your unwanted household textiles to the EvCC Sustainability Initiative’s joint effort with Clothes for a Cause. Monday, April 21

Get $1 off any Bargreen's Coffee Item! - 7am-10am, Parks Student Union Bargreen's Coffee stand. Bring your own reusable cup and get a dollar off any drink!

Plastic Water Bottle Impact Display - 8am-3pm, Gray Wolf/Parks Courtyard. See how many plastic bottles the campus uses and what becomes of them after they enter the campus waste stream.

Plastics Education Event - 11am-1pm, Gray Wolf/Parks Courtyard. Test your knowledge about plastics and the environment and win valuable prizes!

Treasure from Trash Event - 11am-1pm, Gray Wolf Hall 140-144 Lounge Area. Free demonstration/participation event on how to create accessories from recycled items. Wear your craft created at this event to Thursday's "Trashion" Show and get a free door-prize!

Attend any event on Monday, April 21 and get a daily drawing entry for a beautiful blanket made of post consumer recycled materials.

Tuesday, April 22 (Earth Day!!)

Free Coffee or $3 item - 7am-10am, Parks Student Union Bargreen's Coffee stand. Get a free $3 voucher for any item when you provide proof of using alternative transportation to EvCC for the day! Bring your carpool pass, your other riders from today's commute to EvCC, or your bike helmet, and receive a free $3 voucher good toward any item. Voucher has no cash value. Must be used at Parks Bargreen's location only. One voucher per customer. Event continues until vouchers are gone.

Free Showing of "300 Years of Fossil Fuels in 300 Seconds" - 7am-10am, Parks Cafe lounge by Bargreen's Coffee stand. Watch this fascinating look at fossil fuel development and the environmental, economical and energy impact of fossil fuels on society on the wall mounted TVs.

Free Showing of "Future Transportation That Will Blow Your Mind" with Discussion - 11am-2pm, Whitehorse Hall room 105. Watch this documentary about the future of modern transportation and participate in a post-film discussion lead by Eugene McAvoy, Dean of Communication and Social Sciences at EvCC.

Trashion Competition Entries Due - All entries for the April 24 Trashion Show must be received via email or mail by April 22. You must be an EvCC student or employee to enter. Click here for entry form and information.

Wednesday, April 23

Annual EvCC Plant Swap - 9:30am-12:30pm, Gray Wolf/Parks Courtyard. Join EvCC employees, students and local community members in this terrific annual event. Bring plants you'd like to "rehome" (bulbs and seeds or seedlings are also welcome!). Swap with others by grabbing some new foliage for your beds. No need to donate to take home free plants; all items are free.

Gardening with Ciscoe Morris! - 11am-noon, GrayWolf/Parks Courtyard. Ciscoe Morris of "Gardening With Ciscoe" on King 5 TV continues his annual pilgrimage to EvCC to speak. This year, Ciscoe will discuss organic gardening and composting.

Cedar Grove Composting Information Table - 11am-2pm, Gray Wolf/Parks Courtyard. Karen Dawson from Cedar Grove Organics is on campus to field questions and provide information about Cedar Grove Organic compost and soil.

Composting Made Easy - Noon-2pm, Gray Wolf/Parks Courtyard. Learn composting from a master gardener and composter. Check out the display of composters.  Learn how to build a compost bin and worm bin!

Attend any event on Wednesday, April 23 and get a daily drawing entry to win a compost bin!

Thursday, April 24

Trashion Competition Entry Display - 10am-2pm, Whitehorse Hall Critique Space (second floor). Check out the entries for the Earth Week Trashion Competition made of at least 75 percent recycled materials on display.

Trashion Show Catwalk and Judging - Noon-2pm, Whitehorse Hall Critique Space (second floor). Watch as competitors display their original designs made of at least 75 percent post- or pre-consumer recycled materials on the catwalk! Vote for the "People's Choice Award." Find out who wins the $200 first place prize, the $100 second place prize and the (coveted!) People's Choice Award worth $150. You must be an EvCC student or employee to enter. All entries must be received by April 22. Click here for entry form and information. 

Attend any event on Thursday, April 24 and get a daily drawing ticket to win prizes! Wear the accessory piece created at Monday's Treasure From Trash event and get an entry to win a door prize!

Saturday, April 26

E-cycle for Education Electronics Recycling Event - 9:30am-12:30pm, EvCC Parking Lot K. Recycle your unwanted small electronics, including laptops, printers, DVD players, phones, microwaves, cables and ink cartridges. Suggested donation: $10. All proceeds support the EvCC Foundation, which provides funding for student scholarships, college equipment and student and employee training. Some items are not accepted.
