Earth Week at EvCC begins April 21st, 2014 and continues through April 26th.  All events are free and open to the public.

EvCC Earth Week Schedule of Events 

Monday, April 21st: 

Get $1 off any Bargreens Item!--7am-10am--Parks Hall Bargreen's Coffee. Bring your own reusable cup and get a dollar off! 

Plastic Water Bottle "Impact" Display--8am-3pm GWH/Parks Courtyard--See how many plastic bottles the campus uses and what becomes of them after they enter the campus waste stream.

Plastics Education Event--11am-1pm--GWH/Parks Courtyard--Test your knowledge about plastics and the environment and win valuable prizes!

Treasure from Trash Event-11am-1pm--GWH 140-144 Lounge Area--Free demonstration/participation event on how to create accessories from recycled items.  Wear your craft created at this event to Thursday's "Trashion" Show and get a free door-prize!

Attend any event on Monday, April 21st and get a daily drawing entry for a beautiful blanket made of post consumer recycled materials!

Clothes for a Cause--Monday, April 21st through Thursday, April 26th—7am to 4pm daily: Bring your unwanted household textiles to the Whitehorse Hall Critique Space (WHI 2nd floor) and donate them to EvCC Sustainability Initiative’s joint effort with Clothes for a Cause.  100% of college proceeds support EvCC Sustainability efforts and student sustainability scholarships. Click here for details. 

Tuesday, April 22nd (Earth Day!!)

Free Coffee or $3 item--7am-10am--Parks Bargreens--Free $3 voucher for any item when you provide proof of using alternative transportation to EvCC for the day!  Bring your carpool pass, your bike helmet, or your other riders that you've gathered together for today's commute to EvCC, and recieve a free $3.00 voucher good towards any item.  Voucher has no cash value.  Must be used at Parks Bargreen's location only.  One voucher per customer.  Event continues until vouchers are gone.

Free Showing of 300 Years of Fossil Fuels in 300 Seconds--7am-10am--Parks Bargreen's Lounge.  Watch this facinating look at fossile fuel development, and the environmental, economical and energy impact of fossil fuels on society on the wall mounted TVs in Parks Hall near Bargreen's coffee.

Free Showing of "Future Transportation That Will Blow Your Mind--11am-2pm--WHI 105.  Watch this documentary about the future of modern transportation and participate in an after film discussion lead by Eugene McAvoy, Dean of Communication and Social Sciences at EvCC.

Wednesday, April 23rd

Annual EvCC Plant "Swap"--9:30am-12:30pm--GHW/Parks Courtyard. Join other EvCC employees, students and local community members in this terrific annual event.  Bring plants you'd like to "rehome" (bulbs and seeds or seedlings are also welcome!) Swap with other doanees by grabbing some new foliage for your beds...no need to donate to take home free plants, all items are free.  

Ciscoe Morris!--11am-Noon--GWH/Parks Courtyard.  Ciscoe Morris of Gardening With Ciscoe on King 5 continues his annual pilgramage to EvCC to speak.  This year, Ciscoe will discuss organic gardening and composting.

Cedar Grove Composting Information Table--11am-2pm--GWH/Parks Courtyard.  Karen Dawson from Cedar Grove Organics is on campus to field questions and provide information about Cedar Grove Organic compost and soil.

Composting Made Easy--Noon-2pm--GWH/Parks Courtyard.  Learn composting from a master gardener and composter. Check out the display of composters in the GWH/Parks Courtyard.  Learn how to build a compost bin and worm bin!

Thursday, April 24th

Clothes for a Cause Fundraiser--7am-4pm--WHI Critique Space.  Donate unwanted household textiles, shoes, stuffed animals, curtains, sheets, blankets and quilts and other items (click here for list) and support EvCC Sustainability and student scholarships.  Donations are accepted beginning Monday, April 21st through Thursday, April 26th, 7am to 4pm in the Whitehorse Critique Space, 2nd floor WHI Hall.  For more information click here or contact Molly Beeman at 425-388-9070 or mbeeman@everettcc.edu

10am-2pm--WHI Critique Space--Trashion Competition Entry Display.  Check out the entries for the Earth Week Trashion Competition on display in the Whitehorse Hall Critique Space (2nd Floor Whitehorse Hall).  

Noon-2pm--WHI Critique Space--Trashion Catwalk and Judging.  Watch as competitors display their original designs made of at least 75% post or pre consumer recycled materials on the catwalk!  Participate in the vote for "People's Choice Award".  Find out who wins the $200.00 first place prize, the $100.00 second place prize and the (coveted!) People's Choice Award worth $150.00.  Entries in this competition must be an EvCC student or employee.  Click here for entry form and information. 

Attend any event on Thursday, April 24th and get a daily drawing ticket to win prizes!  Wear the accessory piece created at Monday's Treasure From Trash event and get an entry to win a door prize!

Saturday, April 26th

9:30am-12:30pm--EvCC Parking Lot K--Electronic Waste E-Cycle Disposal Event.  Bring your unwanted electronics for disposal to this E-Waste Recycling Event.  Accepted items are limited.  100% of proceeds benefit an EvCC Foundation student scholarship.  Suggested donation: $10.  Click here for more details.

EVCC Efficiency Projects

  • EvCC's Liberty Hall (a replacement project for the aging EvCC Index Quad buildings) is complete!  This 55,000 squarefoot building will be EvCC's third
    high efficiency LEED rated building project.  This building has two high efficiency grants applications in process.
  • EvCC's Lead Electrician, Steve Lyons is working on EvCC's 48th efficency upgrade.  Parking Lot Pole Lights will soon be 100% LED where applicable.
  • EvCC Rainier Boiler Project (Completed): Everett Community College recently completed a project to install more efficient heating systems to Rainier Hall. Previously connected to the campus boiler system, Rainier Hall now has an individual boiler. This project was partially funded by a 162K Department of Commerce grant. The ESCO (Energy Services Company) for this project was McKinstry. 
  • EvCC's Corporate and Continuing Education Center (CCEC): Both PUD (lighting) and PSE (HVAC) completed 2013.
  • EvCC's Shuksan Hall building has had a boiler installed, removing it from the main campus boiler system.  The new boiler will provide a higher level of occupant comfort and save both money and energy.
