Tuition Wavier Policy for State Employees and Members of the National Guard

WHEREAS, governing boards of community colleges of the State of Washington may waive tuition and services and activities fees in accordance with Chapter 211, Laws of 1997, Chapter 82, Laws of 1979, State of Washington and RCW 28B. 15.558, and Substitute House Bill 1047: WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees of Everett Community College values life-long learning and employee professional growth and development;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Trustees of Everett Community College that the following Waiver of Tuition and Fees for Employees and members of the Washington National Guard Policy is adopted. The policy shall become effective September 1, 1997:

  1. State employees and members of the Washington National Guard shall register for and be enrolled in courses on a space available basis and no new course sections shall be created as a result of the registration;
  2. Enrollment information on participants registered pursuant to this policy shall be maintained separately from other enrollment information and shall not be included in official enrollment reports, nor shall such employees or national guard members be considered in any enrollment statistics that would affect budgetary determination;
  3. Eligible participants registering on a space available basis shall be charged a registration fee of not less than five dollars;
  4. The College shall not discriminate between full-time employees and employees who are employed half-time or more;
  5. Only members of the Washington National Guard and state employees employed half-time or more in one or more of the following employee classifications are eligible to participate:
  • Permanent employees in classified service under chapter 41.06 RCW
  • Faculty, counselors, librarians, and exempt professional and administrative employees of higher education as defined in RCW 28B. 10.016
  1. The exception to this waiver will be community service courses, which must be self-supporting.
