RESOLUTION MODIFYING CURRENT WAIVERS AND ADOPTING NEW TUITION WIAVER PROGRAMS APPLICABLE TO STATE-SUPPORTED COURSES.
WHEREAS governing boards of community colleges of the State of Washington may waive tuition fees and Services and Activities fees, and set registration fees in accordance with the Revised Code of Washington and the Washington Administrative Code;
WHEREAS the Board of Trustees and Everett Community College value access to education, lifelong learning and professional development;
WHEREAS the College currently offers a number of waivers previously approved by the Board;
WHEREAS recent legislation and State Board rules have added new regulations for optional and mandatory wiavers and modified others;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Trustees of Everett Community College modifies and adds the following tuition and fee waivers consistent with the revised Code of Washington (RCW) and the Washington Administrative Code (WAC):
Tuition of eligible non-EvCC State Employees and K-12 Certified Staff enrolled in state supported courses will be waived in the amount of 75% of state regulated tuition and S&A fees but must pay any lab and special fees including a registration fee of at least $5. The registration fee will be set anually by the registrar. Enrollment is on a space-available basis, commencing after open registration is over. Those qualified for this waiver are permanent State Employees working 50% or more, and teachers and other certificated instructional staff employed at public common and vocational schools holding or seeking a valid endorsement and assignment in a state-identified shortage area; the shortage areas are identified by OSPI's biennial Supply and Demand survey and endorsement and assignment are validated by the employee's school principal. Eligibility is verified by the Human Resources Office. Effective Date: Fall 2007; modified from earlier resolution. Code 51.
Tuition for eligible resident and non-resident student athletes will be waived in the amount of 25% as set forth by the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges Resolution 06-09-29. The waiver is calculated as 25% of the tuition for a resident student taking 15 credits, and that amount is deducted from resident and non-resident eligible athletes alike. A 25% reduction in tuition and fees for eligible veterans or National Guard members, who were called to active duty in a war or conflict on foreign soil or in international waters or in another location in support of those serving on foreign soil or in international waters, who received an honorable discharge, and who is a Washington resident according to RCW 288.15.013. Effective Fall 2007; modified from earlier resolution. Code 71.
A 25% reduction in tuition and fees for other veterans or National Guard members who did not serve in a war or conflict or in another location in support of those who did, who received an honorable discharge and who is a Washington resident according to RCW 288.15.013. Tuition and fees shall be waived 100% for a child and the spouse or surviving spouse of an eligible veteran or National Guard member who became totally disabled as defined in the RCW 288.15.385 while engaged in active federal military or naval service, or who is determined by the federal government to be a prisoner of war or missing in action; and a child and the surviving spouse of an eligible veteran or national guard member who lost his or her life while engaged in active federal military or naval service. Verification of death or disability or MIS/POW status is required from the Veteran's Administration. Effective Fall 2007. Code 72.
