October 11, 2012 - Two more Athlete's of the Week Honors for Trojans - Week #4
(Everett, W.A.) – Trojan Sophomores Aaron Campbell and Katie Strong were both selected NWAACC Cross Country Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Willamette Invite. The award, which is voted on each week by the coaches, is the 4th that Katie has received in her short time as a Trojan and only the first for Campbell.
For Aaron, this award comes after his performance at the Willamette Invite made him the top Trojan finisher for the first time in any meet since he joined the Trojans in 2011. Aaron’s 25:18.83 equaled his PR performance set last year at the NWAACC Championship and placed him 15th overall in a very competitive field. The time is more than a minute faster than Aaron ran on the same course during his freshman season. Campbell shared the award with Spokane Community College’s Aaron Brenton who also competed in the Willamette Invite where he clocked an impressive PR performance in running 26:14.
For Strong, the award represented the second time this season she has been selected by the coaches. It was given for her blistering performance at the Willamette Invite where her 18:06.35 time represented a 38 second PR and made her the 2nd fastest harrier ever to run for the Trojans. The time placed her just in front of Trojan Hall of Famer Vicky Foltz at 18:07, but just .98 behind two-time NWAACC XC Champion Shawna Schooley’s school record time of 18:05.37 set in 2009.
For both Campbell and Strong their performances led their respective teams to extend their undefeated stretch versus JC competition. Neither squad has been beaten by community college competition since 2010 when the men were 2nd and the women 3rd at the NWAACC Championship. A partial squad will be in action next at the Emerald City Invite on October 13.
