Resiliency Panel Discussion

Location:
Parks Student Union MPR
We all have experienced it at some point in our lives; a point when we are alienated from others and set apart against our peers. We feel alone and helpless, with no vindication or absolution to be found. Whether this comes from our family, our friends, our community, or from society at large, this feeling of hopelessness is devastating to the lives of all that it contacts.
Yet even in these bleakest of times, some of us continue to have hope, and can find refuge in the simple audacity to persevere. Our friends can be our life vests, our dreams can be our rafts, and our wit can be our sustenance as we wait out our turbulent seas in search of our saving shore. All of these themes are crafted in EvCC’s Book of the Year The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.
On Monday, October 26, 2009, come join EvCC students and faculty as we dive into and explore these topics and more in a scintillating dialogue. Our panel, which convenes from 12 noon to 1:30 pm in the MPR (Parks 201), addresses, through the guise of Part-Time Indian, resiliency, poverty and alienation, friendship and humor, and, most of all, that although the book is about “others”, it is really about each and every one of us.

The Clothesline Project (CLP) is a program started on Cape Cod, MA, in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. The project began at Everett CC in 1992. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. The shirts are hung on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of violence against women. The Clothesline will display from Monday afternoon until Thursday afternoon, 10/26-10/29.
