Don’t Change the Subject
Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 1:00pm - 3:00pm
Location:
Jackson Center, Senate Room
Student Activities Programs Board is honored to present a FREE movie screening for all EvCC students and staff. Don’t Change the Subject is a dark, funny, uplifting documentary about surviving suicide. Director Mike Stutz is excited to present such a serious topic with a comical twist. The documentary will be played in the Jackson Center Senate Room, from 1pm to 3pm. The length of the film is 97 minutes plus a Question and Answer session following.
Documentary Synopsis: A darkly comic look at what happens when one man dares ask the question “Why won’t anyone talk about suicide?” Director Mike Stutz investigates his mom’s suicide by opening up a conversation with his family that they never had when he was a kid. Then he recruits a band of writers, artists, dancers, comic punk clowns and suicide survivors to put their own unique stamp on the conversation. Teenagers dance to autopsy reports. A jumper gives tips on how to come out of a coma. A comic discovers that suicide can actually be funny. Also, dozens of amazingly honest and incredible people open up about their lives in ways you’d never expect. Oh and there’s animation, a suicide band, and parties for the dead.
Please join us for this informative event of a grave topic with an unexpected delivery. Do not leave your sense of humor at home. EvCC counselors will be aware and ready to facilitate any questions, discussions or counseling. Earl Martin, an EvCC counselor, will be attending the event. There will also be other counselors available all week in the counselor center on the third floor of Parks Student union.

Tdap/Whooping Cough Vaccination Clinic for Low-Income, Uninsured Students & Community Members
Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 11:00am - 1:00pm
Location:
Whitehorse 105
Low-income, uninsured college students and community members may roll up their sleeves for whooping cough shots in Whitehorse Room 105, Tuesday, November 13, 2012, between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Snohomish Health District and community partner Verdant Health Commission continue to encourage all adults – especially those who have contact with infants – to get vaccinated against this preventable disease. Whooping cough, also called pertussis, is a highly contagious respiratory disease that is spread by adults and children and is particularly harmful to infants, who have no immunity.
Children and adults become sick enough to miss school and work for several days and up to two weeks. As of October 5, Snohomish Health District confirmed 526 reports of whooping cough in 2012, although most cases go unreported, especially in adults. People of all ages need booster shots to maintain their immunity, and most adults aren’t up to date on their shots. A single shot known as “Tdap” prevents tetanus, diphtheria, and whooping cough.
Contact your health care provider or pharmacy to make sure you and your child are fully immunized. While this event is only for low-income and uninsured adults, others should still seek vaccination. Children’s vaccines are free or low-cost, and vaccines for adults may be covered by private health insurance or Medicaid, or offered at reduced cost at the sites listed at www.snohd.org/stopthecough.
Letters notifying parents that their child may have been exposed to the disease have gone out to elementary, middle, and high schools, youth sports, weekend events, daycares and other activities.
These community clinics are part of the Snohomish Health District’s ongoing fight with an epidemic of whooping cough in Snohomish County. The Health District will provide about 800 adult doses of pertussis vaccine made available through the state Department of Health. Sixteen previous whooping cough clinics in the county this year vaccinated a total of 1,877 adults; pharmacies have given about 1,000 shots.
Compared to total whooping cough vaccinations in the first four months of 2011, Snohomish County residents have gotten about twice as many shots in the same period this year.
Download vaccine information sheets and consent forms in English and Spanish at the Snohomish Health District’s Web site, www.snohd.org.
For more information on this event, please contact Colton Colwell, Health and Wellness Coordinator, at (425) 388-9505 or SAO Advisor, Lindsay Hudson, at (425) 388-9508.

EvCC Students Perform “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead”
Close Event
X
Location:
Baker Hall, room 120
Tom Stoppard’s play takes two minor characters in Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and elevates them to playing the leads.
In Stoppard's play, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are seen at the moments that they do not appear on stage in Hamlet. But, since Shakespeare never provided this off stage information, they are at a loss to figure out who they are and why they are there.
At various times in “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead,” the characters from Hamlet come in, and we get the scenes in which these two poor souls do appear, but then they are left alone again, trying to make sense of this world turned upside down.
The play is directed by Andrew Rice. The cast includes: Samantha Lee, Nicole Puzey, Kyle Joy, Alex Hills, Nikki Maier, Caleb Dunn, Phoebe Nguyen, Tatiana Warnek, Eva Bresciano, Eric Zanoni, Kat Johnston, Dylan Hussey and Winter Kartak.
Production staff include stage manager: Daniel Round, set designer Noah Holland and lighting by Jodee Kreitel.
Admission is by donation. The play is open to the public, although theatergoers are asked not to bring infants. For more information, call 425-388-9525.
