The Clothesline Project/Domestic Violence Awareness

Domestic violence has been happening for every countries, societies, and communities. No matter the perpetrator has been educated or not. He or she still could be able to do domestic violence in different ways to the intimate partner such as soul mate, sibling, or family member. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic violence, one in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. The month of October is devoted to bringing awareness to the reality of domestic violence and to encourage those who encounter it to speak up.

The Clothesline Project started with 31 shirts displayed in Cape Cod, MA, in 990 to address the issue of violence against women today it has grown to dozen of projects internationally with an estimated 35,000 to 50,000 shirts. The project began at EvCC in 1992 as a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. The shirts are hung on a clothesline to be viewed be others as a testimony to the problem of violence against women. The shirts will be displayed along the hall of Parks Student Union from Wednesday, October 17, 2012 through Friday, October 19, 2012.
