Humanities Alliance Speakers Series: The Faustian Bargain February 16
12:15pm

The Humanities Alliance, with the generous support of the Office of Instruction, presents EvCC faculty speakers who will examine the "Faustian Bargain" as it relates to Humanities & STEM. Have you ever observed that sometimes even our best efforts to improve human life, save the planet, and promote progress and prosperity end up creating unintended, negative consequences? How can STEM & Humanities work together to prevent or to solve the seemingly intractable problems resulting from these unintended consequences? Must we accidentally destroy when we mean to create? Are we making a "deal with the devil"?

SEX WEEK
Monday, February 22nd – Thursday, February 25th.

Sex Week: we’re doing it! Sex Week is a week-long event that provides a comprehensive sex education to the students of Everett Community College. Whether “doing it” involves stopping by the Sex Fair to learn about organizations and score some goodie bags, attending BDSM and safe sex presentations, listening to spoken word poetry with a sex Q&A, or pulling back the covers on the do’s and don’ts on hooking up, there is an event for everyone. We look forward to seeing you there!

1:00pm-2:00pm
Jackson Center

In his honest, funny, and informative workshop, David Bayless, a sex educator from the Communicable Disease Team with the Snohomish County Health District since 2004, aims to educate the Everett Community College campus and community about sex. David’s workshop will cover a wide range of information, including the four most prominent STI’s, and how to prevent and protect against them, personal identification, abstinence, risky activities vs. non-risky activities, and use of prevention tools. Attend this workshop to learn about yourself, and be provided with a safe and comfortable space to discuss sex.

50 Shades of Grey: Fantasy or Reality with Allena Gabosh
2:30pm-3:30pm
Jackson Center

Join Allena Gabosch as she discusses the reality of the 50 Shades of Grey phenomena.  Do people really have red rooms of pain?  Are there billionaires in Seattle who are kinky?  Do people really do the things that were done in the books and movie?  Allena will answer these questions and more as she discusses exactly what is the reality behind the 50 Shades of Grey fantasy.

The Hook Up
2:00pm-3:00pm

Hooking up can often sound like harmless fun, but it can also be a cover for some very unhealthy behaviors. The Hook Up is an engaging audience-participation program led by trained educators who speak “student.” This engaging discussion pulls back the covers on hooking up, clarifying when it’s actually sexual violence and how bystanders can protect potential victims from predators.  The Hook Up workshop will provide a baseline for what great intimacy looks like, and empower bystanders to become “upstanders” and intervene.

For more information on this event, please contact Mackenzi Chapman, Health and Wellness Coordinator, at (425) 388-9505 or Student LIFE Advisor, Lindsay Hudson, at (425) 388-9508.
