Common ANGEL Problems

Connecting to an EVCC class

  1. Go to http://everett.angellearning.com
  2. Login:  first initial + middle initial + full last name
    * NOTE: If no middle name is in student records use an 'x'. If you have a common last name, you may need to use a '01' or '02' at the end.

    Password:   first initial of your first name capitalized + first letter of your last name in lower case + your full Student ID
    Example: Jd123456789**
    ** If you are unable to login to ANGEL successfully, you MUST reset your password.  To do this, go to http://www.everettcc.edu/password and fill out the form*.  After you have done this, return to ANGEL and login. When changing your password:  DO NOT use the password as shown above.

Connecting to a WAOL class

  1. Access the Website: http://angel.waol.org
  2. Login: Your student i.d. number (SID) (For example, waol222334444)

    Password: For new students, use the first five letters of your last name (For example, Johnson = johns, Lee = lee); returning students use you previous quarters password.

User YOUR COURSE MAY NOT APPEAR UNDER 'MY CLASSES' UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF CLASSES. CHECK THE IMPORTANT DATES FOR SPECIFIC START DATES.


Am I in an EvCC Course or a WAOL Course?

arrow Check the class schedule to confirm which type of online class you are in. This is essential in order to know what ANGEL site to use and how to login to your course.


What is WAOL (Washington Online)?

WAOL stands for Washington Online. It is a consortium of community and technical colleges from around the state of Washington. Students who enroll in online courses that are sponsored by WAOL will receive EvCC credit on their transcript just as they would for other on-ground or distance learning courses taken at EvCC.

Where do I get my text books?

Online Courses

Telecourse Courses

Your books may be purchased at the EvCC Bookstore. Tape/DVD rental is paid to the cashier. Take the receipt, and your photo ID to the Library/Media Center to check out the tape/DVD set for the quarter.


How do I register for an eLearning course?

arrow Registration policies for eLearning courses are the same as for on-campus courses. However, online students may take advantage of the several services that reduce or eliminate the need to be on-campus to enroll.

arrow If you have not yet been admitted to the College and wish to be considered as degree-seeking and receive an early registration time, you should submit an application for admission well in advance of the quarter you wish to start classes. Visit https://admissions.ctc.edu/applicant/welcome.cfm and complete the online application process, or speak to someone in Enrollment Services (425) 388-9219.

arrow All new students should request an EvCC Student I.D. number from Enrollment Services. For more information, call Enrollment Services at (425) 388-9219.


I've changed my name, how do I change my ANGEL login name?

arrow  There are two things you will need to do get your name changed in ANGEL.

1.  Contact the Enrollment Services Office to change your name for your official EvCC records (grade reports, transcripts, etc).

Can I use the computer labs on campus?

arrow Yes. Please visit the EvCC Computer Labs Page for all the details.


Can I use my financial aid to pay for my eLearning courses?

Financial aid is available to qualified students (for more information regarding financial aid eligibility visit the EvCC Financial Aid webpage.

Students receiving financial aid may use this funding to pay for  eLearning courses. Taking more than one course per quarter, or receiving an incomplete grade, may impact financial aid awards. We encourage students to contact the Financial Aid Office at (425) 388-9280 with any questions, prior to enrolling.

Students who receive financial aid are required to verify their class attendance. To receive verification in an online class:

arrow You must have logged into your online class and be able to show some completed work;
arrow Bring a completed aid form and your photo ID to the eLearning Office in Whitehorse Hall 210 or 211;
arrow The eLearning Office will have extended hours for the first week for the quarter;
arrow Contact the eLearning Office for extended office hours.


I am a new student at EvCC, what do I need to do first?

The first thing you will need to do is apply for admission to the College. You can apply for admission online. Visit https://admissions.ctc.edu/applicant/welcome.cfm and complete the online application process, or speak to someone in Enrollment Services (425) 388-9219.


Can I complete my degree online?

Yes. See eLearning degree options for complete details, and schedule an appointment with an advising specialist to help you get started.


How can I take my placement tests if I cannot come to campus?

There are several ways to do this depending upon your situation.  If one of the following does not apply to you, please contact Christine Hahn in the testing center at 425-388-9088.

arrow  Find a place near your location that offers Asset, Accuplacer, or Compass testing.  You may be able to test at this location and send your scores to the Enrollment Services office.  
arrow  If you have already taken Math and English courses you may request a waiver from the Enrollment Services office.
arrow  You may find a proctor and email Christine Hahn for directions.


 Common Problems for ANGEL Users 

Problem

Cannot log in; get an error message

Probable Causes

Incorrect login name, password OR account is not ready.

Possible Solutions

  1. Check your status to ensure your successful enrollment in that course
  2. Contact eLearning to have your password reset
  3. Contact eLearning to verify that your online account is ready; downloads are done daily
  4. Check your section number to see if you are enrolled in an EvCC or WAOL course

Problem

WAOL has no record of enrollment 

Probable Cause

You may be registered in an EvCC section

Check your EvCC enrollment section information


Problem

I have been 'bumped' off the internet while taking an exam

Probable Cause

There are several things that can cause this to happen. Many times, this is caused by coflicts between ANGEL and unsupported browsers.

Possible Solution
  1. Ask your instructor to re-set the exam for you. Only your instructor will be able to do this.
  2. Contact the eLearning office with the specifics of what occurred and what can be done to prevent this from happening again.


Problem

I cannot post or read any posts in the discussion board.

Probable Cause

This is a known issue with Internet Explorer 8.

Possible Solution

Enable the compatability view in  IE8

  1. Open the Web page you are trying to view.
  2. Click on the broken page icon typically located to the right of the address bar.

Note: Clicking this button will refresh the page. It is important not to do this on a page that may be sensitive to the refresh feature.

To add the web page to a list of permanent exceptions, meaning that the page would open in compatibility view automatically upon visiting the page, do the following:

  1. Click on the Tools menu in Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Compatibility View Settings.
    Add an address into the Add this website field
  3. Click Add
  4. Click Close

Note: The use of Internet Explorer 8 with ANGEL is currently discouraged. The use of this compatibility view might not solve every compatibility issue and only serves as a temporary workaround.

Download FireFox and use this browser with ANGEL.

  1. Go to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html 
  2. Follow the directions for downloading.

 



Problem

I do not see my own posts on the discssion board.

Probable Cause

In ANGEL, if you select a Discussion Forum from the left hand side of the page, you may not be able to read your own posts – or posts you have previously read in ANGEL.

When accessing the discussion board from the left hand menu, the default setting for the discussion is set to search for unread posts only.

Possible Solution

If you want to view all posts, you need to:

1. Change the search type to All Posts from the View: dropdown and click Search

Or

2. You can access the discussion via the Lessons Tab (may be named different depending on the course) from the top of the page

Problem

I cannot see the grades in my gradebook.

Possible Solution

You will need to clear your browsers cache.  To do this:

FireFox 3.1
1. Tools
2. Select Clear Private Data
3. Check Cache
4. Click Clear Private Data Now

FireFox 3.5
1. Tools
2. Select Clear Recent History
3. Click the down arrow next to Details
4. Make sure Cache is checked
5. Click Clear Now

Internet Explorer 7
1. Tools
2. Internet Options
3. General tab
4. Under Browsing history, click Delete
5. Next to Temporary Internet Files, click Delete Files
6. Click Close, and then OK

Internet Explorer 8
1. From the Safety menu, click Delete Browsing History
2. Check Temporary Internet files and History, and then click Delete.
