Procedures in the Event of Child Abuse
Child Protective Services (CPS): 339-3900 (Everett) Remember: Failure to report within 48 hours a suspected incident of child abuse is a gross misdemeanor. Protect the victim and protect yourself! Call Child Protective Services (CPS) at 339-3900.
Important First Steps for...
Sexual Assault (child assaulted on or near college property):
Accompany victim to safe place at college and remain with her/him.
Protect evidence of sexual assault.*
Notify parent, school nurse, Child Protective Services (339-3900) and police without delay.
Once student has been cared for, notify immediate Director of Campus Safet at 388-9913 or Ext. 9913.
Complete a Child Abuse and Neglect Report (supplied by CPS). Send a copy to Health Services.
Sexual Abuse (suspicion of past sexual incidents):
Notify Child Protective Services (339-3900) and describe evidence
Leave notification of family to CPS.
Notify immediate director/supervisor.
Complete a Child Abuse and Neglect Report. Send a copy to Health Services - 840 N. Broadway, Everett (339-4768).
Suspected Physical Abuse or Significant Neglect
Notify Child Protective Services (339-3900) and describe evidence. CPS will advise you of next steps. Follow their directions.
Notify your immediate director/supervisor.
Complete a Child Abuse and Neglect Report. Send a copy to Health Services - 840 N. Broadway, Everett (339-4768).
*Do not destroy evidence of rape:
Do not wash clothes, victim’s body or underwear;
Do not allow victim to wash or wipe body;
Do not wipe away dirt, semen, or dried blood;
If needed, call an ambulance or aid car (911);
- Stay with victim and reassure her/him of safety.
