Frequently Asked Questions

The Answers

How do I find out about my student’s academic record and class schedule?

Access to student records is governed by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”). Whether your student is 15 or 55, under FERPA we cannot answer questions or release information about your student to you (grades, current classes, etc) without the written permission from your student. Please visit our FERPA web page. If your student wants to allow you access to his/her information, he/she may complete the Request for Release of Student Information form and submit it to Enrollment Services.

My student is interested in either Running Start or ORCA, where should I go for more information?

Information about Running Start, including eligibility requirements and a step-by-step guide to applying are on our Running Start page. Students interested in the Ocean Research College Academy (ORCA), must go through the Running Start application process and fill out an additional application for ORCA. The ORCA application can be found on the ORCA webpage.

How much is tuition?

Tuition rates and payment information can be found on the Tuition Policies web page. If you pay your student’s tuition, FERPA affects the payment process and governs what information and documentation you must have with you if you pay in person. See below.

I pay my student’s tuition. How do I do that and where do I find information about payment deadlines?

Visit our web page for "Important Dates and Deadlines". This link also shows when classes start & end, refund deadlines, graduation/diploma application deadlines, and other important dates and deadlines.

If you want to pay your student's tuition, you must possess your student's Student Identification number (SID) and PIN, and a copy of the class schedule showing the amount owing.  You can either pay by credit card, or you can come in to the Jackson Center and visit the Cashier's Office. Click here for more information about our payment policies.

How does the financial aid application process work?

Please visit the Eligibility & Application Process page of the Everett CC Financial Aid Office’s website for a step-by-step guide to applying for financial aid. This page also contains a link to the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  For all the services, check out the Financial Aid office.

Where can I find a campus calendar that lists information sessions, upcoming events, the academic calendar (class start & end dates, payment deadlines, etc.), and athletic games?

You can view the campus calendar on this web site. Use the drop-down button to select by specific calendar or by month.

What is my student ultimately responsible for at EvCC?

As parents, we want to assist and guide our children in any way we can. College is an excellent time to allow your student to further develop responsibility, self-reliance, and independence. The student is responsible for:

  • Registering for classes and adding/dropping classes as necessary
  • Reading the materials sent by the college regarding deadlines, requirements, registration, etc.
  • Meeting with a College Advisor to assess college transfer/degree options and requirements
  • Books and Lab Fees
  • Consistent attendance
  • Reading and following the syllabus for each class to complete readings and homework assignments on time
  • Classroom participation
  • Test preparation
  • Seeking help from EvCC support services and instructors when necessary

How will I know if my student is attending class and doing assignments?

College instructors are not required to take attendance and generally do not report attendance.  It is the student's responsibility to go to class.  Instructors are also not able to speak with parents (or other external parties) about a student's participation or progress, unless the student has provided written permission.  If your student wants you to be involved, it may be best to meet with the instructor together, and for the student to submit written permission for communication.  Please be aware that it is not typically the responsibility of a college instructor to issue reports to parents (or other external parties) about a student's progress, and they are not compelled to provide that information.
