Residency

Tuition at Everett Community College is calculated based on your residency status. State regulations set criteria that must be met, as well as what documents we need to verify proof of your residency.

Factors in Determining Residency

  • U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status;
  • Domicile in Washington State for the past 12 consecutive months;
  • Possession of a Washington driver's license/ID card;
  • Registration of your motor vehicle in Washington State;
  • Voter registration in Washington State.

Three pieces of documentation is needed; one of which must be a Washington State Driver's License or ID card.

Persons who have lived in Washington State for 3 years prior to receiving a high school diploma, or equivalent, and  have lived in Washington continuously since earning that diploma, or equivalent, are eligible for in-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities in Washington. For further information about this process contact Linda Baca in Enrollment Services at 425-388-9222.

You cannot qualify for resident status if you or your parent:

  • Possess a current out-of-state driver's license, vehicle registration, or other document that gives evidence of being domiciled in another state.
  • Have received, during the past year, financial assistance from another state government.
  • Have been attending, during the past year, a Washington college or university as a participant in the National Student Exchange program from another state.

Please Note:

  • The parent portion of the above statement is only applicable if you are claimed as a dependent of that parent for federal tax purposes.
  • Residency decisions must be made during the first 30 days of the quarter for which the tuition applies.
