Orientation

Successful students are those who have learned about the college they are attending. They are familiar with campus locations, are aware of policies and procedures, work with an advisor, and have some sort of plan. Orientation is your first step toward those things.

We provide an online orientation. You are welcome to cruise through that information.  Reading the Catalog, the Class Schedule, and the Student Handbook also helps you learn about the College. Surfing this website is another way.

Orientation is also provided in person through our SOAR for SUCCESS program.  We think our SOAR program is a great way to get started.

SOAR for SUCCESS

Our SOAR program is a one-day, one-stop opportunity to complete placement testing, participate in orientation and advising, and then register. New students are invited to a SOAR session after we process their application and notify them of their admission.

Why should you participate in SOAR for SUCCESS?

Would you want to start a new job without training? Not a good idea. It’s the same with college.

Assessment, orientation and advising help you learn the ropes, so you can avoid mistakes and feel good about what you are doing.

Personal attention is right at hand. SOAR for SUCCESS programs are scheduled throughout the year, as each quarter draws near. Contact admissions@everettcc.edu for details or call 425-388-9219. See our current SOAR schedule below.

Although we offer you the benefit of the one day SOAR for SUCCESS session, we know that some schedules may not permit students to devote an entire day. So, you are welcome to complete the SOAR steps in pieces. Complete your placement testing during one of the regularly scheduled test options in the Testing Center. Go through our online orientation. Then come to campus for an advising session or information session.

Make SOAR for SUCCESS work for you.

Skills assessment (placement testing) - two hours. Find out which courses are best for you, based on an assessment of your reading, writing and math skills. Required for students taking more than 7 credits.  Waived for students exclusively in Nursing Assistant, Fire 100, Machining, EMT, Medical Transcription, Medical Coding, and Family Life, or students with certain types of previous college coursework.

Orientation, one hour. Participate in this information-packed session, presented by College advisors. We guarantee that this information will be valuable as you plan your studies. Take advantage of EvCC's services, and discover handy tips for avoiding common pitfalls. Early registration coupons serve as prizes during the orientation activities.

Advising, as long as you need. Meet with an advisor to plan your first quarter’s schedule and map out a strategy for meeting your educational goals. Planning to transfer to a university? Check out our Transfer Planning web page. We have a wide variety of advising services.

Register, in-person or online.

Test waiver: If you have prior college credits or have tested at another institution, you MAY be eligible for a test waiver. To request a test waiver, you must have completed 45 college-level credits or have successfully completed college-level English Composition and Intermediate Algebra. Your request must be submitted in writing to the Enrollment Services before you meet with an advisor or register for classes. Your testing scores and/or transcripts will be reviewed and you will be notified if you qualify for a waiver. Although you may receive a skills assessment waiver for admission purposes, students may still need to take placement testing to satisfy a pre-requisite or obtain a certain score.
