Bridges Across Generations Teaching Lab
Beginning Fall Quarter of 2009, the Bridges Across Generations Teaching Lab has been working on ways to address generational difference in a our courses. Dale Galloway, Kerri Schwab and Stan Goto, the lab creators have asked: "How do we bridge the generation gap in the classroom?" We now have the Veterans, Boomers, Gen Xers, and Millennial students all in the same classroom. What are the unique characteristics that each generation brings into the classroom? These are some of the questions being investigated in the Generational Lab. Some additional items of lab focus are:
What are the identifying characteristics of each generation?
- Why do generations have a disdain for other generations who do not have the same thoughts and ideas as they do?
- Are there any patterns that we can identify by looking at past generations?
- What does it mean to belong to a generations? Why the clash between generations (Why don't "they" see it the way "we" see it)?
- What are some of the communication differences between generations?
- How do we prepare for the next generation of students?
Through the scholarship of learning, the lab will investigate the generational differences in a classroom setting. The Lab will look at various articles, books, and videos with the possibility of conducting a small research project on campus to get a picture of how Everett Community College sees the generational gap.
