EvCC's Christina Castorena Named Outstanding Advocate for Equity by State Trustee's Association
EVERETT, WA – The Washington State Trustees Association of Community and Technical Colleges has selected Everett Community College Associate Dean Christina Castorena as the state’s 2007 Outstanding Advocate for Equity.
Castorena, of Burlington, is EvCC’s Associate Dean for Diversity and has worked at the college since 1998.
“Christina is a remarkably successful, competent, energetic, and dedicated professional who gets involved with the entire campus and her communities,” said Rich Haldi, EvCC Vice President of Student Services. “She is an effective supervisor who supports, inspires and mentors her staff members, and who serves as a most respected role model for the students with whom she interacts.”
Her award was presented in Spokane at a Trustee’s Association meeting.
“I feel fortunate to work in an area that I am personally passionate about. Diversity, equity and inclusion work requires constant learning. I love that aspect of the job, and I love interacting with the students and watching them develop intellectually, socially and culturally,” Castorena said. “I am truly honored to receive this award.”
Castorena also recently was honored by the YMCA of Snohomish County Minority Achievers Program, which presented her the “Ray Sievers Adult Achievers” award at the MAP Recognition & Scholarship Banquet May 22.
