Two Everett Community College Students Named to All-Washington Academic Team
EVERETT, WA – Everett Community College students Laura Jungbauer and Melissa Wax will be honored March 20 by Gov. Christine Gregoire for becoming members of the Washington All-Academic Team.
The two are among 62 team members at the state’s 34 community and technical colleges. The award honors outstanding students who have a demonstrated commitment to success in the classroom and in the communities where they live.
Each will receive a $750 scholarship funded by the Northwest Education Loan Association and KeyBank, and are eligible for additional scholarships at Washington colleges and universities.
Jungbauer, 38, of Everett, plans to transfer from EvCC to Western Washington University’s Huxley College to earn her degree in environmental science. She’s the single mom of two daughters, ages 6 and 8, and is involved in their Girl Scout troops, EvCC’s Student Senate, the campus MESSA Mountaineers club. She also assists during the Washington State Science Olympiad held at EvCC and maintains trails with the Washington Trail Association.
Wax, 28, of Marysville, plans to transfer to the University of Washington. She’s majoring in photography, with a focus on other fine arts disciplines, including oil painting and drawing. She’s also studying German. She hopes to eventually attend the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany. She’s president of the Art Alliance, a volunteer for Purrfect Pals and a member of honor society Phi Theta Kappa . She and her husband are expecting their first child in August.
