Everett Community College Names John Olson
Vice President of College Advancement
EVERETT, WA – Everett Community College has named John Olson as the college’s new vice president of College Advancement and executive director of the EvCC Foundation.
Olson has served as the interim vice president of Advancement since July 2008, one of many leadership roles he’s had at the college during his 18 years at EvCC.
“John is known on campus and in the community for his exceptional communications skills, dedication to the college and effective leadership,” said EvCC President David Beyer. “John has the skills and the experience to take on this job at a critical time for the college.”
Olson previously worked as an EvCC speech instructor, led the college’s strategic planning process, coordinated EvCC’s accreditation in 1999, and served as the interim vice president of instruction and interim dean of Basic Skills and Adult Education.
“I’m pleased to take on this new role at the College,” Olson said. “The work we do here improves the lives of students and directly benefits the communities we serve. I look forward to continue to build relationships that will strengthen our ability to be responsive to the higher education needs in the region.”
He replaces former vice president of Advancement Dottie Krzyzanoski, who announced plans to retire in July. Prior to her retirement, she’s filling in as EvCC’s interim vice president of Student Services.
Olson will work with the EvCC Foundation to raise additional dollars for student scholarships, college programs and classroom equipment. He’ll also work to build stronger EvCC connections with the community, grow the college’s Alumni Association and strengthen the college’s image-building and marketing efforts.
A committee of students, faculty, staff and administrators participated in the hiring process, in addition to EvCC Foundation president Mike Deller, past president Maureen Ryan and Foundation member-at-large Steve Cranfill.
After graduating from Gonzaga University, Olson obtained his master’s degree from Washington State University and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Washington.
