EvCC Adds $30,000 for Student Scholarships
Applications Due March 1

EVERETT, WA – Everett Community College is creating 40 new $750 student scholarships for Spring quarter by adding $30,000 to its scholarship fund.

New and current students can apply. Scholarship applications are due at 6:30 p.m. March 1. Go to www.everettcc.edu/scholarships for an application.

The additional money will be awarded to students through the Everett Community College Foundation.

“Times are tough, and more students need help,” said John Olson, executive director of the EvCC Foundation. “Increasing the number of scholarships is a solid investment in our community’s future.”

Students will see their annual income increase, on average, by about $82 per year for every credit completed at EvCC, and 80 percent of EvCC students stay in the region to work, according to an economic impact study conducted by CCBenefits.

EvCC is serving more than 600 additional students this Winter quarter compared to last Winter, and that number is expected to rise.

Although most scholarships do not cover the complete cost of attending EvCC, the money is critical for students like Morgan Webb, who received a scholarship in 2008.

Webb, a single mom, was working in a pool hall before she went back to school at EvCC with the help of a scholarship from the Assistance League of Everett given through the EvCC Foundation.

“My scholarship made it so much easier to go to school,” she said. “I didn’t have to work full time and could focus on being a student and a good mom.”

Webb graduated with honors in 2009 and is now a student at the University of Washington, studying to become a high school counselor.

The EvCC Foundation is working to raise funds for additional student scholarships. To help, visit www.everettcc.edu/foundation to make a donation or call 425-388-9555.
