Accreditation Evaluators Visit Everett CC
College Earns Five Commendations for Excellence
EVERETT, WA – Evaluators from the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities are praising Everett Community College for its commitment to academic freedom, student participation in college decision making, student satisfaction, innovative programs and commitment to diversity.
A team of 11 evaluators from Alaska, Utah, Idaho, Montana, and Oregon community and technical colleges visited EvCC April 7-9 and issued five commendations for excellence at the end of the visit.
The visit was part of the college's accreditation process, which evaluates how EvCC is serving students, employees and the community.
“This visit culminated a 10-year comprehensive review of our college involving the entire college community. We learned much about ourselves through the process and are very proud of the commendations we received. The review team commented to us in their exit interview how impressed they were by our students and the innovative programs at EvCC,” said EvCC Vice President of Instruction Sandra Fowler-Hill.
The evaluators recommended the college improve in nine areas. They suggested improving EvCC's academic advisement, clarify faculty roles in governance, have its board regularly evaluate its performance and review and revise policies to demonstrate its effectiveness, improve student assessment, include a three-year projection of major income and expenditures in its financial planning, publish and distribute the college's annual budget, develop a policy about the use and limit of debt, and develop a policy about cash management and investments.
The evaluators' final report will be submitted to the Northwest Commission of Colleges and Universities commissioners in July.
