EvCC Named a Military Friendly School
EVERETT, WA – Everett Community College has been named a "Military Friendly School," ranking it among the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools serving active duty military personal, veterans and military families.
G.I. Jobs magazine selected EvCC for its 2011 Military Friendly Schools list after evaluating more than 7,000 schools nationwide.
EvCC serves more than 400 military veterans and active duty military personnel per quarter through its Veterans Office. EvCC also has a student-run Veterans Club and a Veterans Lounge with a study area and computer.
“Veterans and military personnel are an important part of our college and enrich their classrooms with their diverse life experience,” said EvCC Veterans Office program manager Arlene Cahoon. “We're honored to be recognized as one of the top colleges serving the men and women who have served their country.”
EvCC's Veterans Club was selected by students as club of the year in June 2010 and advisor Cahoon was named club advisor of the year.
Rating criteria for G.I Jobs included the accessibility of veterans' services on campus, the availability of information about those services, and the presence of on-campus veterans' activities such as student clubs. Other factors included successful efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students and academic accreditations. Schools on the list range from state universities and private colleges to community colleges and trade schools.
Methodology, criteria and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Committee (AAC), consisting of educators and administrators from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Toledo.
