EvCC Grounds Crew Wins Monte Cristo Award

Take a quick walk around Everett Community College’s campus, and you’ll see why the college recently received an award from the city of Everett for its attractive and well maintained campus.
The EvCC Grounds Crew accepted a Monte Cristo Award for Neighborhood Friendly Business on Oct. 13 at the annual awards ceremony. The awards recognize those who make the city a special place to live through their extensive efforts to make their homes or businesses attractive and keep them well maintained, according to the city of Everett.
“I think it speaks loudly that the college is trying to do its part in making our part of town beautiful and inviting,” said Carla Forney, Director of Custodial and Grounds Services. “The grounds crew and I are proud that our hard has been noticed at such a prestigious level. We will continue to strive to make improvements and hope that we will win again next year.”
EvCC was one of only six businesses that received an award this year.
Credit for the award goes to members of the EvCC Grounds Crew, who work hard to make our campus beautiful. They are: Nursery Services Specialist 4 John Syson; Grounds & Nursery Specialist 1 Brandon Hensley; Grounds & Nursery Specialist 2 Brent Sall, student employees Jerry Olmstead, Ester Bowman and Jessica Lyons; former student employee Bryan Clark; and supervisor Forney.
“I feel this is an amazing group of people who are dedicated and love the work they do,” Forney said. “Winning this award would not have been possible without the work of the entire crew. I want to thank all of them for their dedication and hard work to Everett Community College.”
The grounds crew would like to thank Vice President of College Services Pat Sisneros for his support along with Resource Conservation Manager Molly Beeman and Facilities/Maintenance Administrative Assistant Juliya Krykun for their daily assistance, Forney said.
Forty-seven residences also received Monte Cristo Awards. Landscaping, lawn care and appearance and upkeep of the house or buildings are all considered in the selection process. Businesses are recognized for their visual street appeal. A committee of residents who serve on the Everett Council of Neighborhoods helped make final selections.
