Everett Community College Board Approves $48.5 Million Budget for 2012-13
EVERETT, WA – Everett Community College’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $48.5 million college operating budget for 2012-13 on June 19.
The budget includes a decrease in state funding of $486,004 from the last school year.
State support for EvCC is down $9 million since 2008-09. State funding makes up 42 percent of EvCC’s budget, compared with 64 percent four years ago.
The 2012-13 budget includes a 12 percent tuition increase, raising the average per-credit cost for state-support classes from $96 to $108, as authorized by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. The increase is effective for fall quarter classes.
For an in-state student taking 15 credits, the tuition cost is expected to increase by $141 from $1,172 to $1,313 for state supported classes (self-supported classes may have higher costs). EvCC’s Student Service & Activity (S&A) fee will also increase 12 percent.
The state board raised tuition to help make up for legislative cuts in the 2011-13 biennial budget.
“We are grateful legislators did not make any additional cuts this spring, but we know it will be difficult for students to pay more for the education and training they need,” said EvCC President David Beyer.
As a part of the biennial budget, legislators also required college classified staff to take 5.2 hours of leave per month, resulting in a salary reduction of 3 percent.
