Watch “Don’t Change the Subject” Documentary about Suicide Nov. 7 at EvCC
EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Community College Student Activities Programs Board will show the documentary about suicide “Don’t Change the Subject” at 1 p.m. Nov. 7, followed by a question and answer session.
The movie will be shown in EvCC’s Jackson Center’s Senate room.
The 2012 film is a darkly comic approach to the subject by director Mike Stutz, who investigates his mom’s suicide by opening up a conversation with his family that they never had when he was a kid.
Then he recruits a band of writers, artists, dancers, comic punk clowns and suicide survivors to put their own unique stamp on the conversation. Teenagers dance to autopsy reports. A jumper gives tips on how to come out of a coma. A comic discovers that suicide can actually be funny. Also, dozens of people open up about their lives in ways viewers wouldn’t expect. The film also includes animation, a suicide band and parties for the dead.
“This film takes an unexpected, different look at an important topic,” said EvCC Student Activities Advisor Lindsay Hudson.

The movie will be followed by a discussion facilitated by the filmmaker.
EvCC counselor Earl Martin will attend the event and be available to schedule follow-up meetings with students, faculty and staff. EvCC counselors will also be available through the Counseling and Career Services Office on the third floor of the Parks Student Union.
The event is free and open to the public.
Everett Community College, 2000 Tower St., is two blocks west of North Broadway, between 10th and Tower streets.
