Watch Documentary "Education Under Fire" Nov. 28 at Everett Community College
EVERETT, Wash. – Everett Community College will screen the documentary “Education Under Fire” about higher education in Iran 12:20-1:20 p.m. Nov. 28 in EvCC’s Henry M. Jackson Center Senate Room.
The 30-minute documentary, produced with Amnesty International, profiles the persecution of the Baha'is of Iran.
Since the Revolution of 1979, the Iranian government has denied all adherents of the Baha'i faith access to higher education, has closed down schools, arrested faculty and students, confiscated books and has curtailed higher education options for women, according to producer Jeffery Kaufman.
The film focuses on the Baha'i Institute for Higher Education where, despite repeated raids and arrests, volunteer teachers and administrators created an independent, decentralized university system that has impacted the lives of thousands of Baha'i students across Iran.
The film will be followed by a presentation from a student who fled from Iran for higher education.

The event is presented by EvCC’s Humanities Center and is part of the center’s year-long focus on enlightenment.
The presentation is free and open to the public, and no reservations are required.
