Enter to Win $150 Amazon Card - Take a Survey

Everett Community College is asking students to participate in an online survey between Sept. 22 and Nov. 14. Participants will be entered into a drawing to win a $150 Amazon gift certificate.

EvCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Education & Training Center Grand Opening Oct. 1

Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee will join Everett Community College in celebrating the opening of EvCC’s new Advanced Manufacturing Education & Training Center (AMTEC) at 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the center, 909 N. Broadway. The 37,000-square-foot center is located in a remodeled college-owned warehouse on the east side of EvCC’s Broadway campus at 2000 Tower St. AMTEC opens for fall classes Sept. 22. The $3.75 million remodel of the building started in May 2014, including creating classrooms, computer labs, faculty and staff offices and abundant shop space.

Gallery Shows Art Instructor’s Drawings and Paintings

See drawings, paintings and mixed media installations by Everett Community College art instructor Linda Berkley at EvCC’s Russell Day Gallery Sept. 22 to Oct. 17. The exhibit, called Awakening to Presence, features artwork in a variety of mediums that often references natural forms, landscapes and the human body.

Nursing Students to Volunteer in Dominican Republic

Everett Community College nursing students are raising money and collecting donations of supplies for the college’s fifth annual trip to the Dominican Republic to provide care for impoverished families.

Donors Fund EvCC Program to Teach English to Indonesian Children

Two Everett Community College instructors are traveling to Indonesia Aug. 14-24 to establish a college program to teach English to impoverished Indonesian children thanks to donations from Rotary Club members in Lake Stevens and North Delta, British Columbia, an EvCC grant and individual contributions. Debe Franz and Karen Schilde are traveling to Bali, Indonesia to My Father’s Home, a home for 36 orphaned and impoverished children. The non-profit organization was created in 2008 and run by Kim Boyer of Snohomish. The instructors’ trip was funded by a $500 donation from the Rotary Club of Lake Stevens, $600 from the Rotary Club of North Delta, British Columbia, $700 from online donors and a $1,965 EvCC global initiative grant.

EvCC Welcomes Chief Diversity Officer María Peña

Everett Community College has hired María Peña as the college’s chief diversity officer, a new position created to lead the college’s efforts to create and sustain a climate of diversity and equity. Peña, of Mill Creek, brings 23 years of higher education experience to EvCC. Previously, she served as dean for Student Services and assistant to the president at Peninsula College. She also assumed leadership responsibilities as the steward of the Peninsula College longhouse since its creation in 2006.
