Alison Stevens is EvCC's New Vice President of Instruction and Student Services

Everett Community College has hired Alison Stevens as the college’s new executive vice president of instruction and student services. Stevens, of Seattle, has more than 27 years of higher education experience. Prior to EvCC, she served as the interim vice president for Academic and Student Affairs at Shoreline Community College. “EvCC is doing fantastic work, and I’m excited to be part of the college’s future,” Stevens said. “The college is well known throughout the region and state for innovative initiatives, including that of combining student services with instruction under one umbrella to help students get what they need efficiently and effectively.”

6 EvCC Athletes to Play for Four-Year Schools

Five Everett Community College basketball players and one baseball player have signed letters of intent to play for four-year schools next year.

EvCC Awarded Grant for College Access Coaches for K-12 Students

Everett Community College has received an $18,500 grant from Washington Campus Compact for a program that encourages low-income students from two Snohomish County high schools and four middle schools to attend college. The grant pays for two AmeriCorps members to recruit and train EvCC student volunteers to serve as college access coaches at Weston High School in Arlington, Mountain View High School in Marysville, Marysville Middle School in Marysville, Totem Middle School in Marysville, North Middle School in Everett and Evergreen Middle School in Everett.

Instructor Andrea Cahan Earns Math Teaching Award

Everett Community College math instructor Andrea Cahan is the winner of the 2014 Washington state 2-year college mathematics teaching award. Cahan was selected for the award by her peers statewide. She was honored for excellence and innovation in teaching with influence beyond her institution. She received the award May 9 at the annual Washington state Two Year College Mathematics Conference in Wenatchee. The conference was co-sponsored by Everett and Shoreline community colleges.

EvCC Receives $1.5 Million for Aerospace Training, Equipment

Everett Community College and the Center of Excellence for Aerospace & Advanced Manufacturing at EvCC will receive more than $1.5 million in new state funding to train students for aerospace jobs. The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges awarded $1,577,703 to EvCC to pay for faculty, curriculum design, equipment and staffing to support aerospace programs as part of a statewide effort to increase training opportunities for aerospace jobs. “This investment will help Washington state continue to provide employers with the best-trained aerospace workforce in the world,” EvCC President David Beyer said. “We are thankful for Gov. Inslee and the Legislature’s support for aerospace education and training.”

42 Students Graduate from EvCC’s Ocean Research College Academy June 13

Forty-two students from Everett Community College’s Ocean Research College Academy graduate June 13, earning both their associate’s degree and high school diplomas. ORCA graduation is at 3 p.m. June 13 at the Waterfront Center Blue Heron Room, 1205 Craftsman Way. ORCA graduates will also be recognized at EvCC’s graduation June 13 and at their high school graduations.
