GlobalFest SnoCo Spotlights Local Efforts to Help Global Health March 1 at EvCC

EVERETT, Wash. – Learn what Snohomish County groups and individuals are doing to improve global health at GlobalFest SnoCo from 4 to 6 p.m. March 1 at Everett Community College’s Henry M. Jackson Conference Center.

The event will showcase local individuals, high schools, groups and organizations working internationally in areas such as education, clean water access, sanitation, literacy and environment, with a special emphasis on women and children.

The keynote speaker for the event is Hayden Bixby, international program coordinator from Cura Orphanage in Kenya, who will discuss the impact of AIDS on orphans in Africa.

The event will also include presentations by Bookda Gheisar of Global Washington, who will discuss how organizations in Washington are promoting global development; EvCC nursing students, who will talk about bringing medical help to impoverished families in the Dominican Republic; Joel Bervell of Hugs for Ghana, who will discuss supporting children in Ghana, West Africa through donation drives; and Jeff Brennan of the Mill Creek Rotary Club, who will share how Rotarians are making a difference around the world.

The event is organized by Healing the Children Oregon and Western Washington and Leadership Snohomish County.

“We want to make the public more aware of the great work people in Snohomish County are doing internationally in global health. We want people to leave inspired to get involved,” said EvCC human resource consultant Elise Mayes, who is participating in Leadership Snohomish County’s Young Professionals Program this year.

Through that program, she and Nichole Ordona from the Port of Everett partnered to plan, fund and publicize the event, coordinating with Healing the Children. The event is based on a similar event held in Seattle.

GlobalFest SnoCo is sponsored by Coastal Community Bank, Everett Community College, Leadership Snohomish County, Mukilteo Beacon and Pacific Copy & Printing.
