EvCC Gets Good News at the White House: $1.5 million grant

Everett Community College will recieve a $1.5 million share of a nearly $10 million grant awarded through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) awarded Sept. 28 by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden at the White House. Vice President Biden was joined by U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas E. Perez and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan during the announcement. Two hundred seventy community colleges will receive $450 million to expand job-driven training partnerships between community colleges and employers as part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The grantees will partner with 400 employers.

Donate Blood at EvCC Oct. 13-14

Everett Community College’s Student LIFE office and the Puget Sound Blood Center are hosting a blood drive at EvCC Oct. 13 and 14. The blood drive is from 8:30 a.m-2:30 p.m. in EvCC’s Henry M. Jackson Center Wilderness Auditorium. The event is sponsored by the Student LIFE Health & Wellness program. To make an appointment to donate, sign up at the Student LIFE office in Parks Hall, room 209, or call Student LIFE at 425-388-9561. Walk-in donors are also welcome.

Achieving the Dream Names EvCC as a National Student Success Leader

Everett Community College was recognized Sept. 24 as one of the nationwide leaders in student success by Achieving the Dream for its commitment to student completion and closing achievement gaps. “EvCC faculty and staff have worked hard to improve student completion in the past three years, and we are tremendously honored to be selected as a student success leader,” said EvCC President David Beyer. “But our work isn’t done. We are committed to streamlining the path to success for every student.” EvCC was one of 16 community colleges selected this year as an Achieving the Dream leader college. Achieving the Dream has 32 leader colleges nationwide, including six in Washington.

EvCC Hosts “CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections” Oct. 16

Everett Community College is hosting “CHINA Town Hall: Local Connections, National Reflections,” 4-8 p.m. Oct. 16 at EvCC’s Henry M. Jackson Conference Center. The event will start with a live webcast talk by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and will be followed by a presentation about eco-villages and the environmental impact of China's urban growth by Melinda Herrold-Menzies, associate professor of environmental analysis at Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif. Following Herrold-Menzies’ speech and time for questions and answers, a recorded version of Carter’s earlier address will be replayed, followed by more community discussion. Participants can submit questions online as part of the national conversation and ask questions and share their thoughts as part of the local discussion.

EvCC’s Advanced Manufacturing Education & Training Center Grand Opening Oct. 1

Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee will join Everett Community College in celebrating the opening of EvCC’s new Advanced Manufacturing Education & Training Center (AMTEC) at 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at the center, 909 N. Broadway. The 37,000-square-foot center is located in a remodeled college-owned warehouse on the east side of EvCC’s Broadway campus at 2000 Tower St. AMTEC opens for fall classes Sept. 22. The $3.75 million remodel of the building started in May 2014, including creating classrooms, computer labs, faculty and staff offices and abundant shop space.
