EvCC Foundation Breakfast Raises $72,500
EVERETT, WA – The Everett Community College Foundation’s April 23 community breakfast raised $72,500 to support student scholarships and college programs.
More than 400 people attended the breakfast, which featured Washington State University President Elson Floyd as the keynote speaker.
“We are thankful our donors recognized the value of investing in the students and programs at EvCC. We appreciate each dollar and will continue to put each contribution to good use to help students succeed,” said John Olson, executive director of the EvCC Foundation.
Everett Community College will serve about 20,000 students this year, and the need for scholarships and other support has increased, Olson said.
The EvCC Foundation provided 176 scholarships and other support to students in 2011-12, but was unable to help half of all students who requested aid. For students who do receive scholarships, the funds cover about 20 percent of the cost of their education.
The breakfast is part of the EvCC Foundation’s efforts to increase the number of student scholarships, emergency loans and grants. The Foundation is also working to seek out equipment and support to ensure students have the technology they need in the classroom.
The Foundation, in partnership with corporations, businesses, foundations, and individuals, is committed to continuing the college’s tradition of serving as the region’s leading provider of academic and technical education.
