Video: Lang family donates Whidbey Island property to EvCC’s Ocean Research College Academy

The family of an Everett Community College Ocean Research College Academy (ORCA) graduate is donating 3.8 acres of waterfront property on south Whidbey Island for EvCC students to use for research. The undeveloped land is being donated by Gary and Kathi Lang. Kathi’s daughter, Rebekah, graduated from ORCA in 2013, finishing her last two years of high school and first two years of college at the same time. ORCA is an early college academy for high school students focused on marine science and hands-on student research. The family is donating the land to the ORCA program “because of everything it has done for my daughter,” Kathi Lang said. “To be able to do something for kids in the future, that’s really important to us.”

Rubenstein’s Donates New Carpet to EvCC’s Veterans Resource Center

Everett Community College’s Veterans’ Resource Center has new carpet, thanks to a donation from Rubenstein’s. The Seattle-based commercial flooring company donated more than $4,000 worth of carpet and labor, replacing worn, stained carpet that was more than two decades old.

EvCC Foundation breakfast raises $90,000 to support student scholarships, college programs

The Everett Community College Foundation’s April 21 community breakfast raised more than $90,000 to support student scholarships and college programs. More than 450 people attended the breakfast, which included recognition of student parents and the college’s Early Learning Center. The keynote speaker for the breakfast was former Washington state first lady Mona Locke. “We asked community members and college employees to support students, and they very generously responded. The donations at today’s breakfast will quickly be put to work to help students stay in college and receive a high-quality education at EvCC,” said John Olson, executive director of the EvCC Foundation.

747 Airplane Aft Flap Donated to Everett Community College Aviation Program

Everett Community College aviation maintenance students are getting real-world experience with composites thanks to the donation of a 747 aft flap through Aviation Technical Services. “This donation increases our ability to offer our students flight control, sheet metal and composites training,” said Dave Bowen, director of EvCC’s Aviation Maintenance Technician School, who celebrated the donation Feb. 13 with ATS employees and EvCC students.

Donate to Gary Parks Memorial Scholarship to Help Future Firefighters

The family of Everett firefighter Gary Parks and his fellow firefighters are creating an Everett Community College scholarship to honor Parks’ memory.Parks, an 18-year veteran of the Everett Fire Department, was killed in 1987 battling a fire that destroyed EvCC’s library and student union. The Gary Parks Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in EvCC’s Fire Science program. The Everett Community College Foundation is asking for donations to the scholarship fund.
