Future firefighters climb 69 flights to raise money to fight cancer - donate to their team

Colin Nash and Peter Evans haven’t fought a fire yet, but they’re joining professional firefighters in the battle against blood cancer. The two Everett Community College fire science students will climb the 69-flight Columbia Center tower on March 8 in The Big Climb, a fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. They’ll make the climb wearing 55 pounds of protective gear, including a self-contained breathing apparatus. Unlike professional firefighters who regularly shoulder the gear, Nash and Evans have only had five months to practice.
