Basic and Developmental Education: East County

You can improve your math and English skills, prepare for and take the GED® test, learn English as a second language, or finish high school through the Youth Re-engagement program at EvCC's East County Campus. Call 425-259-8732 if you have any questions about these programs in Monroe.

Adult Basic Education and GED® Preparation

Learn basic reading, writing and math, and prepare for the GED® test. Classes are offered in the evenings each quarter at Park Place Middle School in Monroe. These classes are offered for students who test below a ninth grade level in reading, writing and math and are designed to prepare students to take the GED® test. Orientation and Assessment

New students and students who haven't taken these classes for two or more quarters must participate in an orientation and assessment session. Winter quarter 2015 sessions will be held on December 8 and 9 at the Lake Tye Building 14090 Fryelands Blvd. SE, Room 303 in Monroe. Please be on time for your selected session and be prepared to stay for three hours. Also, please make arrangements for child care. Please bring the following items:

  • Current photo ID
  • Social Security Number
  • Mailing address
  • $25 class registration fee (check, money order, credit or debit card)

Classes

These classes are offered Winter quarter 2015 (Jan. 5 - March 16):

  • ABE Math Levels 1-5: Mondays and Wednesdays 6-7:20 p.m.
  • ABE Communication Levels 2-5: Mondays and Wednesdays 7:30-8:50 p.m.

English as a Second Language

The English as a Second Language (ESL) department provides a variety of classes for students for whom English is not their first language. Classes are offered in the evenings each quarter at Park Place Middle School in Monroe. Classes cost $25 each quarter, and waivers may be available. Make payment by cash, check, money order, credit or debit card. Para las clases de ingles el costo es de $25 por trimestre: sin embargo, algunas personas calificaran para tomar la clase sin tener que pagar dependiendo de lo que gana mensualmente ó el tamaño de su familia.

Las clasas de ESL en Monroe son los martes y jueves, 6 - 8:50 p.m., en la escuela Park Place Middle School, salon A-4, West Main Street, Monroe, Washington. East County Youth Re-Engagement Program

Take classes Free
in Monroe!

The ECU3 program is free and has many options available to students. The ECU3 program has the following entrance requirements:

  • students must be under 21 to apply to the program
  • students must attend an Information Meeting
  • take a placement test
  • attend an orientation session

Our program features individual support for students to achieve their goals.  We currently have 5 options for students to choose from:

  • continuing with Skills Development classes
  • classes to earn a High School diploma
  • preparation classes to take the GED test which would enable students to start college classes both in Monroe and Everett
  • technical certificates, usually 1 to 2 quarters that lead into entry level employment
  • Foundations quarter on main Everett campus for students needing more academic skills to go on to college level classes

The first quarter will focus on individualized instruction, building skills to enable students to transition into various options available to them with support and advising.
