East County Testing Center
At the East County Campus, you can take the COMPASS placement test required of all new students and the GED® test. We also offer information technology and evaluation systems tests through Pearson VUE and proctored testing for the community and other colleges and universities. For questions about any of these tests, call 425-259-8732; we are happy to help.
COMPASS Placement Test
What: New and returning students are required to take the placement test to see which classes you're ready for. You can take the test at the East County Campus.
When: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. ;No appointment necessary.
Cost: $30. $10 for retakes. You can pay for the test at the East County Campus with cash, check, money order, debit or credit card.
Bring: Your EvCC student ID number and photo ID. If you don't know it, bring your social security number.
Tips: Placement testing is not pass-fail, but it's important that you place into the right class for you. Don't panic, but do take the test seriously; you're allowed a limited number of re-takes. The test is not timed, but we advise students to plan on spending about 1½ to 2 hours in the testing center. You'll get your test results before you leave.
What: The GED is four separate tests that assess the knowledge and skills equivalent to high school graduates. You can take all four tests - together or separately - at the East County Campus.
When: The third Friday of each month from 1-4 p.m. You must make an appointment (see below). Upcoming test dates are:
- Aug. 15
- Sept. 19
To make a test appointment: Create a free account at ged.com, which will allow you to make test appointments, access your scores and more. Make sure you fill out all of the demographic information in your profile; some of it is under "Schedule a Test" rather than "My Information," and too much missing information can block you from making appointments. Once you have created your account, select "E. Co. Campus" as your testing location. If you have any problems setting up your account or making appointments online, please call 1-877-EXAM-GED (1-877-392-6433).
Cost: $30 for each of the four test sections ($120 total). You will need a credit, debit or pre-paid card to pay online. If you are paying with a voucher from another office or agency, please bring the voucher to the Lake Tye Building, room 303, before your test appointment.
Tips: The East County Campus also offers GED prep classes. The GED test is computer based, but it must be taken at an authorized testing site like the East County Campus. Beware of web sites that offer students online GED certificates for hundreds of dollars; these are scams. For more information about GED testing and classes, visit the EvCC GED page.
