Senate approves more money for engineering club

Dane Read | Staff Writer

The Student Senate approved an additional $2,000 for the Engineering Club’s entry into a submarine competition, and reviewed other business on campus Friday, May 11.

The need for more money came from “increased air-fare,” according to club member Brian Doolan.

The grand total for their project, which began in March of last year, has now reached $10,580, with $1,500 coming from the EvCC itself and $9,580 from the student body.

One student senator asked, “How many stars is the hotel you’re staying at?” Club member Justin Faber responded that they didn’t have a choice in where to stay and by boarding at the same hotel as other participants of the competition, they would be better able to “mingle together.”

The Student Campus Enhancement Fund and the idea of “Student leaders” speaking in front of classes, about the topic, were discussed as well. The Election for the Campus Enhancement will take place May 29 through 31.

Other matters included Campus Awareness Day and the acknowledgement of one person’s complaint about “the amount of spittle on the sidewalk,” around the public smoking area in front of the Parks Building.
