Governor Christine Gregoire plans to freeze current college tuition costs for two years in an effort to make education more accessible and affordable for students as part of her education focused capital budget proposal.

The governors’ operating and capital budget proposals will focus on quality education with 61 percent of her $29.9 billion budget aimed at colleges and freezing tuition expenses.

Education plays the lead role in the governor’s plan, and she hopes to open the doors to college and universities to more students, according to the SBCTC legislative news.

“We’re going to make education more affordable, we really need to freeze tuition at our community and technical colleges… we need a tuition policy that gets predictability to students and their families,” Gregiore stated according to SBCTC legislative news.

Global warming scare raises concerns over alternative fuel

By Jennifer Littlejohn
Staff Writer

The United States is currently the largest contributor of carbon dioxide emissions in the world. A large percentage comes from petroleum fuel efficient vehicles. A solution to reduce CO2 emissions is to switch from petroleum based gasoline to a more environmentally friendly alternative known as ethanol.

The United States has already begun the transition from gas to ethanol. A small percentage is mixed into gas in some regions and Washington State Gov. Christine Gregoire signed a bill in March 2006 that will require fuel sellers to include 2 percent of ethanol in their product.
