Carla Meilnik

BIOGRAPHY

Carla grew up in Oregon, where almost all of her extended family resides, and at age nine, Carla moved from Albany to Eugene with her Mother and brother. Many of Carla’s earliest memories are of drawing pictures as a way of playing make-believe. By Middle School, her classmates noticed her drawing in class, and she enjoyed that kind of attention, making sketches for people on demand. In High School, her relationship with creating art became more of an inward affair, and spent more time drawing on her own.

After High School she moved to Camano Island, Washington and married soon after in 2000. The amount of time Carla spent on drawing dwindled to almost nothing for many years. Even still she would think about creating something almost every day, so that she never completely gave it up. Instead she turned her attention to learning art history, and began collecting biographies of artists that she admired.

Now, Carla is a student at EVCC, and her artistic goals don’t seem out of reach to her anymore. To be in a learning environment with talented instructors and other aspiring artists and designers is inspiring to her.

Her dream has always been to create animations for short musical pieces. She is fascinated by the process of making drawings come to life with motion, especially when combined with a musical score.
