Virtual Assistants (VAs) are independent contractors who partner with clients to provide business support. They are entrepreneurs who have highly skilled areas of expertise. VAs are small business owners who work remotely from their home office by means of technology. They often provide, but are not limited to, administrative support, bookkeeping, marketing and promotional materials development, desktop publishing, web development, travel arrangements, database management, real estate services, and technical support. Low overhead and start-up costs, flexibility of schedule, and ability to work from home are some of the benefits VAs enjoy.

The Virtual Assistant Certificate is offered entirely online and prepares students to work in the virtual environment. During the first quarter students explore what is required to become a VA, create marketing and business plan materials, and learn how to conduct business online. The second quarter students are provided web space to develop their website, launch their business, and begin daily operations with faculty support.

Suggested Preparation
Students should possess the following: strong oral and written communication skills and good customer service skills. Students should be a self-starter, organized, and a life-long learner. Intermediate computer knowledge and usage, keyboarding, and previous experience in the services your virtual business will provide are also required.
