Medical Transcription

Train from Home

Our online Medical Transcription Program is a 100% distance education program that allows you to train from home. After successfully completing the nine-month program, you will earn a Medical Transcription Certificate.

The Everett Community College comprehensive medical transcription program is approved by the Approval Committee for Certificate Programs (ACCP), a joint committee established by AHIMA and AHDI to approve medical transcription education certificate programs.  AHIMA and AHDI acknowledge the ACCP approval committee as the process to identify quality medical transcription education programs that have been evaluated by a peer review process against a minimum set of standards for entry-level medical transcription  professionals.  This process allows academic institutions, healthcare organizations, and private companies to be acknowledged as offering an AHDI Approved  Medical Transcription Certificate Program.

Several factors make AHDI Approval valuable including:

  1. Identifies for the public specialized programs that meet established medical transcription educational standards.
  2. Stimulates improvement of educational standards by involving faculty and staff in program evaluation and planning and faculty development opportunities.
  3. Promotes a better understanding of the goals of professional medical transcription education.
  4. Provides reasonable assurance that practitioners possess the necessary job skills upon entry into the profession.

EvCC’s  program approval is good through June 25, 2013, at which time an application for another three-year renewal will be made.

Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity Names EvCC’s Patricia Stettler Educator of the Year

Everett Community College Medical Transcription Program Administrator Patricia Stettler is the Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI)’s 2011 Educator of the Year.

The award, from the world’s largest clinical documentation professional organization, honors Stettler’s excellence in medical transcription education. Stettler, who has taught medical transcription at EvCC for 11 years and coordinates the program, has nearly three decades of medical transcription experience including working in a medical office and managing a medical transcription service.

“Patricia Stettler is there every day for the students; she cares how they are progressing, how their lives are going and the value of education in attaining a career that will have a positive outcome in their future. It is great to see that dedication and compassion for students recognized and rewarded,” said Stuart Barger, EvCC Dean of Health Sciences and Public Safety.

Stettler, of Kirkland, said she loves teaching and sharing her passion for medical transcription.

“Medical transcription is either a field you hate or love and when a student tells me she or he loves doing transcription, my teacher’s heart is fulfilled,” she said. “I’m honored by the award, but it’s truly just the icing on the very sweet cake of my everyday life as a medical transcription teacher.”

EvCC’s 43-credit medical transcription program is offered online only and educates students in Snohomish County and throughout the country. Students attend full-time or part-time and graduate with a medical transcription certificate.

Graduates work as medical transcriptionists for medical transcription services, hospitals, and clinics. Many work from home as a contractor, employee or their own boss. Work involves listening to recordings dictated by physicians and other healthcare professionals and transcribing them into medical reports, correspondence and other administrative material for patients’ medical records.
