Medical transcription courses at EvCC are instructed by experienced medical transcriptionists. Pat Stettler, CMT, AHDI-F is the program administrator and lead faculty. She is a Certified Medical Transcriptionist (CMT) with 26 years of experience in the field. Pat is also a past recipient of an Everett Community College Exceptional Faculty Award!

Preparation

Prior to beginning medical transcription courses, you should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and keyboarding skills by touch (minimum 45 words per minute). If you do not currently possess those skills you should consider completing the following courses at Everett Community College (or your local college) before beginning the medical transcription courses. (Note: If you do not reside within Washington State you would pay out-of-state tuition if you enrolled in any of these courses.)

  • BT 219 Introduction to Microsoft Word
  • CL 101 Computer Literacy

You are responsible for providing a computer, software and Internet connection for your class. Please see computer requirements on the page "Is Online Study for Me?"

Registration & Payment

The Medical Transcription program is a self-support, non-tuition program. Classes start and end dates follow the regular EvCC academic calendar. Last date to register and pay (self pay, third-party funding, or proof of financial aid award) is due by the "Registration & Payment Due Dates" listed below or at the Registration Calendar.

Payment can be made to the Cashier's Office in person in the Jackson Center during business hours, or through the Student Kiosk. Payment can also be mailed to Everett Community College, Cashier's Office, 2000 Tower St., Everett, WA 98201-1390. Acceptable forms of payment include:

  • Cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard, or Discover Card
  • Financial aid awarded by Everett Community College
  • Veterans Educational Benefits (Advance Pay arranged with VA representative)
  • Third-party agency payment voucher

Withdrawal & Refunds

Deadline for 100% refund or to make changes to your schedule is no later than 4:30pm Pacific Time the fifth day of the quarter (100% refund is the quarterly fee less the value of the materials). There is no 50% refund option.

The student is responsible for officially withdrawing from the program. If you need to withdraw you must email Dotty Bock at success@everettcc.edu or call toll free 1-866-304-EVCC(3822). Note that if you have been awarded financial aid to attend this program you may be financially responsible for repaying all or part of the financial aid awarded to you.

Students who withdraw on or before the fifth day of the quarter may return their materials to Career Step, and request a refund if they are unused and in their original condition. Students are responsible for covering the expense of the return shipment; and to receive a refund, they must be received by Career Step within three weeks of the first day of the quarter. Tuition is due on or before the 5th business day following your registration. All tuition and fees are due prior to the begining of the quarter.

June 11, 2010, registration closed to all Medical Coding and Transcription students due to books and materials needing to be mailed and received by students in time for classes that begin June 21, 2010
