The Phlebotomy program has changed into two classes, Health 220 and Health 221. Health 220 is the classroom and lecture portion, Health 221 is the externship. You must take 220 before taking 221. Both classes will not be offered every quarter, but will run on a rotating schedule, with Health 220 not being offered again until the fall quarter. Please see the information sessions listed if you would like to come to the campus to learn more about the program.
New Immunizations and Background Check Procedures for the Phlebotomy Technicican Program
All immunization documentation and criminal bacground checks for the Phlebotomy Technicican program must now go through our new online databank system. The Health Professions Service Center will no longer accept this documentation at their office. If you plan to take Health 221 you must have your records uploaded into this new system to receive a permission code for this class. Here are the links for the directions on how to create your account, upload your immunizations , and complete your background check .
The number of phlebotomy jobs is growing and is expected to continue growing. Phlebotomists collect blood for lab analysis and work in medical and diagnostic laboratories, physicians’ offices and other healthcare facilities.
Students enroll in Health 220 after all prerequisites are met. Upon successful completion of classroom and clinical externship training, the student meets eligibility requirements to sit for the national certification exam sponsored by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
