What's New for the Nursing Program?
New Immunization Requirement
Beginning Winter, 2009, an immunization for Pertussis is required for all Nursing students whose last Td vaccination is older than 2 years. For all students, the current requirement remains at a primary series of three doses plus a booster every 10 years. The additional requirement of obtaining a pertussis immunization (Tdap) will be in place for any student whose last Td did not include this component and was received earlier than 2 years ago. Td boosters will then continue to be required every 10 years.
Regarding HIV/AIDS Certification
Beginning in Fall, 2008 (deadline date: April 15, 2008), entering students will need to complete an 8-hour HIV/AIDS class PRIOR to entering the program.
On-line classes and in-person classes will meet this requirement provided they include these topics:
- Etiology and Epidemiology
- Transmission and Infection Control
- Testing and Counseling
- Clinical Manifestations and Treatment
- Legal and Ethical Issues
- Psychosocial Issues
Everett Community College provides HIV/AIDS classes each quarter. Check the current class schedule under Health Sciences for upcoming HIV/AIDS classes.
