Program Announcements
Beginning Fall 2012 through Spring 2013, the EvCC Nursing Assistant program will be partially supported by the HECO grant. Tuition will be about $960.00 plus fees and supplies. Please review the HECO webpage for additional information, paperwork and support available.
Program Steps to Begin
- Download Curriculum Guide and complete the application and criminal history form
- Review Immunization checklist and gather all necessary records. You must have complete immunization records in order to begin the program. If you do not currently have your immunization records, please take the checklist (found in the Curriculum Guide) to your doctor or health department and complete the required immunizations, blood draws and tests.
- Bring your application AND health records to the EvCC main campus and give them to the Health Professions Service Center located in LBH, room 255. Attend required information session to be accepted into the Nursing Assistant program.

Nursing Assistants work closely with patients, take vital signs, and help patients exercise, eat, dress and bathe. They work under the supervision of a nurse and play a key role in keeping the nurse up-to-date on vital information about patients' conditions.
EvCC offers a one-quarter program that prepares graduates for certification as nursing assistants. The program is approved by the Washington Sate Department of Social and Health Services. Many nursing assistants continue their education to become nurses.
The Nursing Department of Everett Community College offers a career mobility approach to nursing education that prepares graduates for Certification as Nursing Assistants. The program is approved by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services.
Curriculum
Instruction covers the following areas: basic technical skills, mental health and social services needs of clients, clients' rights, promotion of clients' independence, communication and interpersonal skill development, safety and emergency procedures, rules and regulations that affect the Nursing Assistant's practice, personal care skills, basic restorative services, infection control, CPR instruction, and HIV training. The entire program is completed in one academic quarter.
Nursing Assistants are qualified for employment as entry-level caregivers in hospitals, long-term care agencies, clinics, physician's offices, urgent care settings, and client's homes. Many Nursing Assistants continue with education that leads to licensure as a nurse (LPN or RN)
