Life Science Department
The Life Sciences Department at Everett Community College (EVCC) offers courses that give students of all majors insight into the living world. Our multi-faceted program offers a selection of classes designed to enable the student to address topics ranging from the inner-workings of the human body to regional and global ecological systems and issues.
Students preparing for careers in the allied health sciences, such as nursing and dental hygiene, receive high quality instruction in cellular biology, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology. Science majors pursuing careers in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, bioengineering, biotechnology and/or research science are well prepared for future academic and professional requirements through the majors’ sequence of biology courses.
The majors sequence has been specifically designed to align with national standards for undergraduate biology education, as well as regional and national four year programs. Non-science majors will gain insights into humans and their role in the living world through introductory courses on nutrition, human anatomy and physiology, general biology, environmental science, and disease. Additionally, specialized courses offered in Botany (plants), Ornithology (birds), and Marine Biology (marine life) of the Pacific Northwest will benefit majors and non-majors alike.
Our department is committed to student success and excellence in teaching. The faculty holds advanced degrees in plant and animal biology, medicine, and nutrition. Instructors remain current both in their scientific fields and in teaching and learning by regularly participating in conferences and reading current publications.
