Worker Retraining / Displaced Homemaker
Everett Community College works with the Employment Security Department to provide job training for people who are unemployed or face imminent layoff. Students may qualify for assistance with tuition, fees and books, and continue to receive unemployment benefits while attending one of EvCC’s many occupational programs.
What is Worker Retraining Assistance?
- We are a "jump-start" funding source to help for the first quarter
- This grant supports students who are not receiving tuition assistance through other programs
- WorkForce Training pays for all tuition and lab fees
- Required tools/supplies for courses are not included (Cosmetology, Aviation, Welding, Photography, Art, etc.)
- Continuing Education Courses are covered only if job-related
- Funding is restricted to ATA – Vocational, non-transfer and certificate programs
You are eligible if…
- You are currently receiving unemployment benefits or have within last 24 months, or are facing a layoff
- You have been operating your own business and are unemployed because of general economic conditions in the community in which you reside
- You have been honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces within the past 24 months

You will be filling out the following applications to obtain permission from Employment Security to attend school:
- CAT- Commissioner Approved Training request is a request to Employment Security to allow you to attend school and collect your unemployment insurance without actively seeking employment.
- TB- An application for Training Benefits is a potential extension of unemployment benefits while attending full-time school. This form must be submitted within 60 days of opening your Unemployment claim.
**You will periodically (every 6 weeks) receive a Progress Report from Employment Security that will need to be signed off by the WorkForce Training Office.**
What is Displaced Homemaker Assistance?

You are eligible if:
- You have lost your primary source of income of 3 years
- Are not gainfully employed
- Need assistance to secure employment
- Have been dependent on federal assistance but are no longer eligible for that assistance
