<p>Everett Community College has selected Barnes &amp; Noble College Booksellers to operate the college bookstores starting May 20.</p>
<p>All EvCC Bookstore locations (Parks Student Union, Whitehorse Hall, Liberty Hall) <b>will be closed from 3 p.m. May 14 until 8 a.m. May 20</b> for the transition.<b> </b></p>
<p>EvCC studied the situation very carefully and is confident that Barnes &amp; Noble will bring additional resources to our bookstores and will keep pace with both the college's evolving needs as well as rapidly changing student expectations for their bookstores, said EvCC Vice President of College Services Pat Sisneros.</p>]]></description>

<p>Everett Community College will celebrate the first graduates from the college's honors program, Dennice Bryant and Tu "Julian" Le, at 5-7 p.m. June 6 in EvCC's Jackson Center with guest speaker NFL punter Chris Kluwe.</p>
<p><span class="headlineblue">The celebration is open to the public.</span></p>
<p><span class="headlineblue">Bryant and Le will present their capstone projects at the event. Bryant, 33, Monroe, will discuss her research and analysis about the history of health care policy and the Affordable Care Act. After graduation, she hopes to study political science at the University of Washington.</span></p>
<p><span class="headlineblue">Le, 20, of Everett, will speak about his multimedia art project exploring the impact of multiculturalism, spiritual clash and the digital age on personal identity, self perception and moral and ethical dilemmas. After graduation, he plans to seek internship opportunities in</span> film/multimedia, interactive arts, theatre arts or performance arts. </p>]]></description>

    <title>EvCC Hosts Regional NWAACC Baseball Playoffs May 16-19</title>

<p><span class="headlineblue">Everett Community College will host the Northwest Athletic Association of Community College's Northern Region baseball playoff series May 16-19 at Everett Memorial Stadium.</span></p>
<p><span class="headlineblue">The EvCC Trojans, who finished league play in first place in the Northern Region with a 21-3 record, will host the four-team series against the second, third and fourth-ranked teams in the region.</span></p>
<p><span class="headlineblue">The Northern Region includes Everett, Edmonds, Skagit Valley, Bellevue, Douglas and Shoreline colleges, games May 11-12 will determine which three teams will join Everett in the playoffs.</span></p>]]></description>

    <title>EvCC Athletic Hall of Fame Celebration June 19</title>

	<description><![CDATA[<p><strong>Release Date:</strong> April 29, 2013</p>
<p>EVERETT, Wash. - Six former athletes, one coach and five teams will be inducted into Everett Community College's Athletic Hall of Fame at a dinner June 19.</p>
<p>The event is at EvCC's Fitness Center, 2206 Tower St. Social hour is at 6:30 p.m. Dinner is at 7 p.m. Participants are required to RSVP in advance.</p>
<p>The keynote speaker for the event is former KRJ 950-AM sports talk radio host Mike "Gasman" Gastineau, who stepped away from the mike in December after 21 years on the air.   </p>
<p>The players selected for EvCC's Athletic Hall of Fame include softball MVP Jamie Foote, baseball and football letterman John Garner, multisport athlete JoAnn Larson Timpone, basketball star Ciara Papac, golfer Bob Whisman and runner Cindy Yahne Peterson.</p>
<p>Legendary coach Ed Puck, who coached at North Junior High, Everett High and Everett Community College, will also be inducted. At EvCC, Puck was the head track coach, head golf coach, and assistant football coach during his tenure.</p>
<p>Teams selected this year include the 1953, 1954, and 1955 Trojan golf teams, which had a three-year run of state championships and produced several of the finest golfers to ever come out of the area. The record-setting 1959 men's track team, which earned the state title, will also be inducted. The 1960 Trojan football team, which went 7-1, winning the league championship, is also joining the Hall of Fame.</p>]]></description>

<p>The Everett Community College Foundation's April 23 community breakfast raised $72,500 to support student scholarships and college programs.</p>
<p>More than 400 people attended the breakfast, which featured Washington State University President Elson Floyd as the keynote speaker.</p>
<p>"We are thankful our donors recognized the value of investing in the students and programs at EvCC. We appreciate each dollar and will continue to put each contribution to good use to help students succeed," said John Olson, executive director of the EvCC Foundation.</p>
<p>Everett Community College will serve about 20,000 students this year, and the need for scholarships and other support has increased, Olson said.</p>]]></description>

    <title>GED Test to be Replaced in 2014 - Finish Your GED Now!</title>

	<description><![CDATA[<p align="left"><strong>Release Date:</strong> April 22, 2013</p>
<p align="left"><span class="headlineblue">Students who have started but not completed their GED tests are encouraged to finish before the test changes in January 2014 - or they'll have to start over.</span></p>
<p align="left"><span class="headlineblue">The current version of the GED test will be replaced nationwide by GED Testing Services in January 2014. The GED test includes five parts that can be taken separately, but all must be passed to receive a high school credential.</span></p>
<p align="left"><span class="headlineblue">Students who have passed some but not all parts of their GED tests must complete the rest by the end of the year or they'll have to start over with the new test. They'll also have to pay a testing fee again.</span></p>]]></description>

<p>EVERETT, Wash. - Four people who lived through the Holocaust will tell their stories this spring as part of Everett Community College's Holocaust Survivor Forums.</p>
<p>The forums, now in their 14th year, are part of EvCC's Humanities 150D class "Surviving the Holocaust," which includes written, filmed and personal accounts from eyewitnesses. Speakers were arranged through the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center in Seattle.</p>
<p>The presentations are free and open to the public and are from 12:20 to 1:20 p.m. at EvCC's Henry M. Jackson Conference Center, Room 101. No reservations are required.</p>]]></description>

<p>The two were recognized in a ceremony at South Puget Sound Community College. The award honors outstanding students who have a demonstrated commitment to success in the classroom and in the communities where they live.</p>]]></description>

<p><span class="headlineblue">Everett Community College and the Providence Everett Healthcare Clinic are celebrating the opening of Liberty Hall at 1 p.m. June 5.</span></p>
<p><span class="headlineblue">The three-story, $37.5 million facility, is located at 903 North Broadway next to the college's Fitness Center.</span></p>
<p><span class="headlineblue">In addition to EvCC classrooms and labs, the 72,000 square foot building will be the new home of the Providence Everett Healthcare Clinic, now located across the street.</span> The Clinic will hold an open house from 2 - 4 pm following the ribbon cutting ceremony.</p>]]></description>

<p>EVERETT, WA - Artwork created by Everett Community College students will be on display in "The Last Call" at EvCC's Russell Day Gallery May 13 through June 7.</p>
<p>The annual student art exhibit includes the work of graduating and second-year students studying ceramics, digital media, drawing, graphic design, web design, painting, photography, sculpture and music.</p>
<p>"This exhibition highlights the most exciting and innovative art and design that our visual arts students have produced over the past two years," said Greg Kammer, Russell Day Gallery Director.</p>

<p>Everett Community College students will perform Moliere's "The School for Husbands," at 7:30 p.m. May 30-June 1 and June 6-8 in EvCC's Baker Hall, Room 120.</p>
<p>The comedy is the story of two sisters and their suitors. One suitor, Sganarelle, is controlling and overbearing of his intended wife, Isabella. The other suitor, Ariste, treats his intended wife, L&eacute;onor more as an equal. Ariste finds success in his pursued relationship, while Sganarelle fails miserably. So much so, in fact that that he is unwittingly used by Isabella in seeking her preferred courter, Valère.</p>]]></description>

<p>The two were honored at the Everett Community College Foundation breakfast April 23.</p>
<p>"These two alumni have done exactly what we want all of our graduates to do.  We want the people who come through our doors to refine the talents they bring to us and move on to success in further education, in the workplace, and in their communities," EvCC President David Beyer said.</p>]]></description>

    <title>Two EvCC ORCA Students Earn Maritime Scholarships</title>

<p>Everett Community College Ocean Research College Academy students Mallory Suggs of Monroe and Stefan Sorensen of Lake Stevens have earned scholarships from the Youth Maritime Training Association.</p>
<p>Suggs, who is a student at Monroe High School and ORCA, earned a $5,000 scholarship sponsored by the Seattle/Pacific Northwest Chapter of Council of American Master Mariners. She plans to pursue a career in marine biology and earn advanced degree in marine science. After graduation from ORCA, she will attend Western Washington University.</p>
<p>Sorensen, who is a student at Lake Stevens High School and ORCA, received a $3,000 scholarship sponsored by Foss Maritime Co. and the $500 Pacific Maritime magazine scholarship sponsored by RH Philips Publishing Group.</p>]]></description>
