Wellness at EvCC

In our commitment to fostering a thriving work environment, the College has created the Wellness Program - an initiative designed to contribute to and support a culture of well-being. The Wellness Team is composed of EvCC employees who share a desire to promote healthy practices. The Wellness Team works to identify and implement events and activities that support the whole person by addressing the five essential elements of well-being: Social, Health, Financial, Community, and Career. Our comprehensive approach ensures that employees are supported in every aspect of their life, both within and beyond the workplace.

Social Well-Being: We encourage strong social connections among employees through team-building activities and social events.

Health, Mental and Physical Well-Being: Our wellness initiatives encompass fitness classes, nutrition guidance, and access to a wide range of wellness resources.

Financial Well-Being: Financial wellness workshops offer guidance on budgeting, saving, retirement planning and exploration of benefits offered at the College.

Community Engagement: We empower employees to give back to their communities through volunteering opportunities. Engaging with local organizations creates a sense of purpose and social responsibility.

Career Development: In partnership with Human Resources, our focus on career growth includes training and continuous learning opportunities. Clear pathways for advancement and performance inspire professional development.

Wellness in Action

EvCC has been a tobacco-free campus since 2012. Our employees may choose to use the Walt Price Student Fitness Center, and there are plenty of beautiful walking paths and areas on and around campus. We offer healthy food and beverage options for purchase, and employees also have access to SmartHealth  (Washington State's voluntary wellness program that supports PEBB benefits subscribers on their journey toward living well. It is included in PEBB benefits at no cost to employees.) Additionally, the Washington State Employee Assistance Program (EAP)  is available as a free, confidential program created to promote the health, safety and well-being of public service employees.

Awards

Recently, the EvCC Wellness Team was awarded the Zo8 Award!  The Zo8 Award recognizes organizations for completing the eight standards for one year. This means that we have:

  • Gained Leadership Support
  • Formed a Wellness Team
  • Collected Data
  • Created a Plan
  • Selected and Promoted Activities
  • Created Policies
  • Evaluated Progress
  • Shared Results

Our campus was also recognized as a Fit-Friendly Worksite at a Gold level by the American Heart Association (AHA)! According to the AHA, this means we have not only recognized the importance of a healthy workplace for our employees but have taken important steps to create a culture of wellness by providing support to employees. This year, EvCC is one of only 2 Higher Education Institutions nationwide to achieve Gold Level recognition, and the only Higher Education institution in Washington State to achieve recognition from AHA publicly!

We are 1 of only 18 Higher Education institutions who received the Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite Award, and 1 of only 25 institutions nationally who received both the Platinum award and Worksite Innovation award in 2015!
