People & Processes - Funding Sources

State Allocation

Most salaries are paid for from the state allocation. We use the state allocation for salaries so that when cost of living increases come from the legislators, the amount we receive is based on how many full time positions we have that are paid from state allocation funds.  Some salaries are paid for by grants.  For athletic coaches, the salaries are paid by student activity funds.  For some security officers, the salaries are paid by the parking fees.

Local Funds

Equipment is primarily paid for by local funds. This includes large equipment such as vehicles, forklifts, and trucks.  Other equipment used in instructional programs also comes from local funds.

Other sources/ COP

Other sources of funding include COPs, which are certificates of participation. These are loans from the state, that can be used to fund equipment. One example of COP use for equipment is the voiceover IP phone system.  The college financed this large purchase so that we could have the upgraded system all at once.

Other sources/ Reserves

At times, the College uses reserves to fund large purchases. One example of this is when the board of trustees approved approximately $300,000 for the purchase os security equipment, including outside speakers, to make sure everyone would hear safety announcements on campus.
