Board of Trustees 2019-20 Priorities

The Board of Trustees reaffirms its commitment to Everett Community College’s Core Themes as expressed in the college’s strategic plan: Student Success, Innovation and Leadership, Community Connections and Partnerships, Cultural Pluralism and Global Readiness, and Resource Stewardship. In order to support fulfillment of the mission expressed in this plan, the Board will continue to encourage the college’s implementation of a “Guided Pathways” strategy to help students complete education programs faster and succeed in their transfer and employment goals and increase equity and inclusion.

In 2019-20, the Board has established the following annual priorities in support of the achievement of the Core Themes:

Priority 1: Ensure a smooth transition and successful onboarding of the new president by implementing the Board’s transition plan and to set the stage for a successful year.

Priority 2: Advance equity and social justice through institutional and cultural change, develop a common understanding of equity, and increase employee and student diversity in order to cultivate a pervasive campus culture of respect, advocacy, and engagement for all.

Priority 3: Support Strategic Enrollment Management practices that will result in a strong pipeline of students seamlessly enrolling in the institution while helping them to achieve their educational and career goals, using data to identify target populations for recruitment, leveraging external partnerships to drive enrollments growth, and addressing barriers to enrollment and success.

Priority 4: Create an environment that emphasizes innovative practices to support student retention and completion in a forever changing educational marketplace.

Priority 5: Encourage a climate of collaborative partnerships between students, faculty, staff, and administration to improve student success, with increased faculty and staff leadership of student success strategies including Guided Pathways, stronger communication, and a greater focus on the relationship between student learning in the classroom, the overall student experience, and the college's strategic direction.

Priority 6: Endorse using principles of data-informed decision making and continuous improvement to strengthen the advising process--including mandatory orientation, entry advising, College 101, and program advising--so that all students receive academic and career development advising at regular  intervals and on demand from skilled, trained advisors.

Priority 7: Continue to monitor and provide guidance in prudent fiscal management, encourage innovation in creating new sources of funding, and support effective infrastructure growth and maintenance.

Priority 8: We infuse innovative learning and state-of-the-art pedagogy such as an emphasis on critical thinking and collaborative learning into all course offerings. Our infrastructure supports innovative instruction, prepares students for technologies of the future, and links education and training to high demand career paths.
