$3.3 Million Federal Job Training Grant Goes to Everett Community College
EVERETT, WA – Everett Community College will receive a $3.3 million federal grant for targeted training and workforce development to help workers changing careers, including expanding the college’s aviation maintenance, machining and composites programs.
The funding is part of a $20 million grant to a consortium of 14 Washington community colleges, two aerospace technology centers, the Washington State Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee and the Washington State Center of Excellence for Aerospace and Advanced Materials Manufacturing.
The grant is from the $500 million designated by the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Initiative, which supports partnerships between community colleges and employers to develop programs that provide pathways to good jobs, including instructional programs that meet specific industry needs.
“Everett Community College is proud to be part of this important system-wide response to the workforce needs of the aerospace and manufacturing industries in Washington. This grant will help build our capacity to provide the kind of focused skills training people need to get family-wage jobs in our community,” EvCC President David Beyer said.
In addition to expanding the college's aviation maintenance, machining and composites programs, the college will also offer additional options for English language learners and other entry-level workers to access training that will lead to advancement.
Spokane Community College is serving as the lead agency for the grant via Air Washington, a statewide project that researches, develops and implements education, training and other services to meet the state’s growing aerospace demands in advanced manufacturing/machining, aircraft assembly, aircraft maintenance, composites and electronics.
Consortium members include: Big Bend Community College; Clover Park Technical College; Edmonds Community College/Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center; Everett Community College; North Seattle Community College; Peninsula College; Renton Technical College; Skagit Valley College; Spokane Community College; South Seattle Community College; Wenatchee Valley College; Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee; the Center of Excellence for Aerospace and Advanced Materials Manufacturing; and the Inland Northwest Aerospace Technology Center in Spokane.
The grant is supported by the Spokane Area, Snohomish County, Seattle-King County, Olympic and Pacific Mountain, North Central, Northwest, and Tacoma-Pierce County Workforce Development Councils and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (AIM) Local 751 and 160.
Employer partners include Absolute Aviation, Aerospace Futures Alliance (AFA), Angeles Composites Technology, Inc., The Boeing Company, Inland Northwest Aerospace Consortium (INWAC), Janicki Industries, Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance (PNAA), Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition (PNDC) and Profile Composites North America.
