Suggested Changes

State allocation

  • Options for getting as much of the state allocation as possible?
    • Increased efforts in the following areas:
      • Adult Basic Education
      • High demand programs (STEM)
      • Underrepresented groups
      • Completion/SAI
    • Continue to focus on enrollments:
      • Can’t lose sight of enrollment targets cause enrollments still make more than 40% of allocation funding.
    • Being strategic in these areas will affect the funding we will receive, whereas the other parts of the allocation model are fixed amounts allocated to each college.
  • What will the college do when nothing can be done to increase the state allocation?
    • Continue to find ways to diversify our revenue streams:
      • Allocation funding is not guaranteed or expected to increase so other sources of revenue will need to be utilized to balance the budget.
      • The college is already diversified in areas such as Running Start, International Education, College in the High School, Corporate and Continuing Education, and High-Demand Programs.
  • How will the new allocation model be reevaluated?
    • The State Board reevaluates the model every 5 years. The allocation model is developed with the participation of WACTC presidents group, the Business Affairs Commission, SBCTC staff and the nine-member State Board. The model is based on where the committee thinks the colleges need to prioritize and grow.

 Grants

  • How can we best utilize our grant funding?
    • Spend as much as possible of the grant award
    • Be competitive yet conscientious about what grants we apply for
    • Get information about why we did not receive an award so we can approve the process to be more competitive on the next grant we apply for
    • Reach out to various areas on campus to market the types of grants available and how the grant could benefit their area
  • How do we prioritize what grants we will apply for?
    • Stay within that 5-7million range
      • Meets operating capacity and helps with college funding
  • Who decides what grants will be applied for?
    • Executive Director of Resource Development decides which grants to ultimately apply for and whether we have the capacity and expertise to apply for the grant
  • Weigh our options and prioritize what grant to apply for based on capacity and our opportunity for success
    • What are the big considerations?
      • The amount of the grant award does not necessarily equate how much the grant will help with college funding
        • Amount of grant spent determines amount of college funding
      • Change in US administration how will this affect federal funding?
